The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to part of the Blog Tour for Kate Baxter's "The Dark Vampire (The Last True Vampire #3)."

SYNOPSIS:

Centuries ago, the vampire race was almost destroyed. Now, salvation rests upon one - the last true vampire.

For centuries, Jenner has been plagued by the shadows of his past. Now, a newly-turned vampire, he stalks the night like a wild predator, unable to satisfy his insatiable desires. Until a beautiful vampire sets his soul on fire...

Bria is pure innocence, hidden her whole life from a merciless enemy determined to hunt her down. When things become perilous, safety comes in the form of a fearsome bodyguard - Jenner.

One fateful night, Bria is saved by her vampire protector and a blazing connection is sparked. But surrendering to the powerful call of passion means breaking free from the shackles of their pasts. And with the war against the slayers more savage than ever, they must fight to survive. For the vampire race depends on it.

LOVE IN THE FACE OF DANGER

One of the things I love about writing paranormal romance is that I get to incorporate the story with a fair amount of action. I love to craft fight scenes, put my characters in constant peril, and amp up the tension by making sure the atmosphere is thick with danger. Aside from the romantic plot of the book, I want to see my hero and heroine overcome obstacles that might put their lives in danger. And only as a team will they be able to come through their trials unscathed. Because at its core, love is a partnership and teams are always stronger than a single person.

But how does love factor into the equation? If it’s all about teamwork, then won’t any old partnership do? Maybe, but this is romance we’re talking about. A story in which the characters find their inner strengths by finding strength in each other. It’s that realization that gets the reader to the happily ever after. And isn’t that why we all read romance?

Love and sacrifice go hand in hand. From a story telling standpoint—and even in real life—sacrifice ups the stakes. When you’re willing to do anything for another person, give up anything in order to protect someone, facing danger takes on a whole new meaning. That need to protect the one you love creates a resolve and strength that you might not have otherwise. On the flip side of that, once you’ve found someone to love, you don’t want to ever let that feeling—that person—go. Love digs in with barbed claws and holds on tight. Which means that failure isn’t an option. Whatever danger the hero and heroine might face, they’re determined to win. Like Rose said to Jack in Titanic, “I’ll never let go…” Wait. That might not be the best example. Though Jack did make the ultimate sacrifice so Rose could live. Okay, moving on…

Let’s get back to that whole inner strength thing. With love comes confidence. Inner strength is born from confidence and vice-versa. It’s the sort of unflagging bravery that makes you think you can take on the world. Failure isn’t an option when facing the odds with someone you love. In fact, there are no odds. Nothing can stand against love. It’s a lesson taught over and again in stories since stories were first told. Love is the strongest partnership there is. What might have seemed unsurmountable is totally possible to overcome when the one you love is by your side. It might take heroes and heroines a few hundred pages to figure that out, but when they do…we all stand up and cheer.
