Synopsis:

Didi Monroe’s waited her whole life for the type of romance you see in the movies, so when Hollywood heartthrob Zac Ridgemont sweeps her off her feet, Didi believes she might finally have met the one.

While Zac’s away filming for the summer, Didi begins her internship at a military hospital in California. There, she meets wounded Marine Noel Walker.

Frustrated on the outside and broken on the inside, Walker’s a pain-in-the-ass patient who refuses all help.

Yet Didi can’t help but be drawn to him, and though he’s strictly out of bounds it soon becomes impossible to ignore the sparks flying between them.

As the attraction simmers into dangerous territory, Didi finds herself falling hard for a man she knows is going to break her heart. Because Walker doesn’t believe in love or happy ever afters. So what possible future can there be?

Then tragedy hits, shattering both their worlds, and Didi is forced to choose between fighting for love or merely falling for the illusion of it.

Review-Jo

This was yet another fantastic story from Mila Gray. I was hooked on Didi and Walker's story from the very first page and I felt so sad when it ended. I highly recommend reading this one, even if you haven't read "Come Back to Me", it really doesn't matter as this book can be read as a standalone.

Didi was a psychology student about to start her internship, working alongside injured military personal. This was when she met Walker, a marine who had returned from Afghanistan an utterly broken man. Not just on the outside, but on the inside too. As soon as I met Walker, I knew that he was going to steal my heart. After discovering his awful experience of war and finding out that he was so damaged, you would have to have had a heart of stone not to feel sorry for him. Walker was living in a world of pain and guilt that no-one could break into, but then Didi came along and Walker's hard shell began to crack.

"Somehow she's making the darkness a little lighter."

I loved Didi, she was loving and caring and demonstrated so much patience with all of the men at the hospital, not just Walker. Because Didi did not have much experience when it came to men, I felt as though she was letting men use her, especially her on/off boyfriend, Zac, but with Walker everything changed for her. She realised what real love was and that Walker was the perfect man for her, despite his demons. Didi and Walker had such an intense connection, there was so much chemistry between the pair that it was impossible for them to be just friends and ignore their true feelings for one another. Being with Walker meant that Didi would need to take a huge risk, a risk that could mean jeopardising her career. Their relationship had forbidden written all over it, but Didi and Walker were already far too lost in each other to seriously think about the ramifications until it was too late.

I want to be with Walker. I'm drawn to him like a crazed,
suicidal moth to a blazing bonfire.

This story wasn't just about Didi and Walker, it was also about the other patients that I met at the military hospital. I got to know so many different characters and my heart went out to every single one of them for what they had each been through. They each had their own journey to make during the story and I was there to love, laugh and cry alongside everyone of them. This story definitely wasn't all hearts and flowers, that's for sure. Just like "Come Back to Me" this book also dealt with the ugliness of war and it once again made me think about the military heroes and how truly courageous they are. The characters from this story will stay with me for a long time to come.

Just because the fairy tale doesn't exist doesn't
mean the happily-ever-after doesn't either.

Despite the tears that were shed and the emotional turmoil that this book caused, what shone through the most was Didi and Walker's beautiful love story. A love story that won't be easily forgotten. Didi and Walker's relationship truly warmed my heart, I was so wrapped up in their story that I hardly noticed the time going by. I was unable to put my kindle down, reading late into the night. Mila Gray has once again captivated me with another brilliant story. I can't wait to read more from this fabulous author.

"This Is One Moment" gets  ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️  from me.

Author Bio:

Mila Gray is the pen name for young adult author Sarah Alderson.

Having spent most of her life in London, Sarah quit her job in the non profit sector in 2009 and took off on a round the world trip with her husband and tutu-wearing daughter on a mission to find a new place to call home.

After almost a year spent wandering around India, Singapore, Australia and the US, they settled in Bali where Sarah now spends her days writing and trying to machete open coconuts without severing a limb. She finished her first novel Hunting Lila just before they left the UK, wrote the sequel, Losing Lila, on the beach in India, and had signed a two book deal with Simon & Schuster by the time they reached Bali. Sarah has co-written the Hunting Lila screenplay, which is currently in the early stages of production, and continues to blog about her life and travels.
