Synopsis:

Every woman wants me--except the one I sing for.

Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.

But when you love a girl, you don't leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.

So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?

Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.

When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I'm a god--but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl's not happy to see me.

Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that's her -- Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she's out for my blood.

That's alright.

Let her come at me. Because I'm out for her heart and, this time, there's no way she can stop me.

Review: Surj Harvey

Katy Evans "Real Series" is up there with my all time favorites and I've just loved getting to know the gang... from Brooke and Remy to Grayson and Melanie, and not forgetting Kyle, Riley and Pete. However, in this fifth installment entitled "Ripped," I was given the opportunity to have a rummage around in Pandora's head. Yup, this was her story and I couldn't wait to see what her deal was. Pandora was one of those characters who (despite featuring in the previous books), I hadn't gotten to know particularly well. She appeared quiet, kinda dark, a bit doom and gloom and pretty much anti men. That was as much as I knew until I turned the first page. Then it was like I'd been hit by a freight train .. so many emotions assaulted me at once and I couldn't wait to get to the crux of her story. I knew this was going to be a good one from the get go and so I immersed myself into Pandora and Mackenna's world and rode that rollercoaster of highs and lows right alongside them, loving every, single bit of their journey.

I choose hate. It makes me feel good. Protected and safe. Hating him is all that keeps me sane.
Hating him means what he did to me doesn't matter. I can still feel something.
I am not dead because I cam still feel this hate corroding me.
He's ruined me for all other men. He's stopped me from being the woman I could have been.

"Ripped" was a story about a second chance at love and it was about forgiveness and healing... easier said than done when you've had your heart shattered at the tender age of seventeen and you've never fully recovered from it. That was Pandora's story. The story she'd never spoken a word to anyone about. The story she kept locked away. The story that (even six years later) still ate away at her. And who knew Mackenna Jones, lead singer of the "Crack Bikini" was the man responsible for her misery. (OK don't get me started on the band name!!). So when an opportunity to exact her revenge and put the past behind her presented itself, she embraced it with open arms... until she got caught... oh crappety crap ...and her punishment? .. spend three weeks with the band while they toured and finished off their film. Was this a fate worse than death or an ideal opportunity to bring her tormentor to his knees? Only time would tell.

Our love was like a raging storm and a harbor; unruly and unstoppable,
but steady and safe...or so... my foolish seventeen year-old heart thought.

I couldn't wait to see where Pandora and Mackenna's journey would take them. What I did know was that it wasn't going to be plain sailing. I could feel the hurt, resentment, anger and blame from both sides, flashbacks from the past making me realise exactly what had been lost. But there was a spark... an undeniable spark that grew stronger with the turn of every page and I for one was giddy with excitement as to where it could all lead.

Pandora's character was one I completely got. I could see where she was coming from and I finally understood why she was the way she was. Yes she was angry. Of course she was bitter. And yes she was filled with a hatred like no other. But there was a loneliness to her, a vulnerability that seeped through showing me just how fragile this woman's heart was. I truly felt for her because if you looked closely, like really closely, Pandora was a woman that craved what her friends had found... affection. touch, love. She wanted to be someone's everything but her past held her back... it had held her back for six years but would she continue to fight it? Would she fight all those feelings that had resurfaced when she came face to face with the man who still held the key to her heart? I honestly didn't know. The fear was evident but there was something else niggling at the back of my mind telling me all was not necessarily as it appeared.

Mackenna was a brilliant male lead who very quickly managed to weave his way into my emotions. And no, it wasn't just the fact that he was a rock star (although that did earn him some brownie points). It as more his persistence at getting his girl back, at making up for lost time, at giving her everything he should have but didn't. It was all of that that made my heart turn to mush.

"Ripped" was filled with some beautiful, tender, heart felt moments as the couple remembered the love they shared but it was also filled with fiery moments as each character struggled with the pain of the past. Mix into the equation, some very hot (and I mean very HOT) sex and this book had all the key ingredients that made it a fab read.

Like junkies, one taste and we were obsessed.

Katy Evans really has a way with words and her ability to make you feel what the characters are going through is second to none. It was at about 82% though, when she finally delivered that killer blow. I didn't expect it... didn't see it coming and before I knew it, she'd gone and shredded my heart to pieces with that lump in my throat causing a pain like no other. Damn her because from that moment, my mind went into overdrive at all possible directions this story could go. She could have taken the easy, predictable route, but she chose not to and I thank her for that.

"Ripped" was a fantastic addition to the "Real Series" and I'm so glad I finally got to know Pandora.  Her story was beautiful yet soul destroying but well worth the read. I honestly thought that this was the last installment in this series but I found out today that there is actually another book on it's way next year. The mind boggles as to who gets their story next. Kyle? Pete? Riley? I don't care as long as I get more. I gave "Ripped" ❤️❤️❤️❤️
