Review: Surj Harvey

Matthew Sky,what am I going to do with you? Women love you. They want to marry you. I'm sure some would even like to have your babies!!! But me... Unfortunately I fit into none of those moulds. However.... I am fascinated by you, intrigued by your way of thinking and as much as there are times you frustrate the ever loving f**k out of me, I'm 100% addicted to the story you have to tell. See I'm doing it again... Making the assumption that Matthew Sky is M Pierce... As in 'The' M Pierce who wrote this series and when you've finished reading this second instalment entitled "Last Light," you'll completely understand why. If you thought the lines between fiction and reality were blurry in "Night Owl," you haven't seen anything yet. All the way through this book, I found myself second guessing whether what I was reading was in fact autobiographical. And if that was the case... wow, this tale was even more twisted and messed up than I initially thought.

" You don't know what it meant to me."
But now I know. It was his privacy. And now I know how he valued his privacy.
Over me, above his family. Above everything.

The synopsis for "Last Light" was vague and for a reason. To fully enjoy the next chapter in Hannah and Matthew's story, you need to go in blind and because of that, I'm not going to go into any detail about the plot. What I will say is that Matthew Sky continued to be possessive, controlling, moody and manipulative and this book really gave me an insight into the lengths this man would go to, to protect all that he held dear. Was it far fetched? Ummm... Yes but then Matthew Sky isn't the type of person who does things in half measures and so based on that, every bit of it was believable... Messed up but believable.

Hannah.. Bloody hell there were moments I wanted to high five her for the strength and courage she displayed. But then there were times I wanted to shake her and knock some sense into her. But the heart wants what the heart wants and there is no rationalising with that regardless of what the head says!!!

"I don't want to be the sun in your sky. Do you get what I mean?
I'm happy being the moon."

The relationship between Hannah and Matthew remained as intense as ever and very sexual. I'll admit, I really loved Matthew's dirty mouth and lucky Hannah because she got to live out her fantasies!!! What this couple shared isn't everyone's cup of tea and in reality, if Hannah was a friend, you'd be telling her to run a mile but somehow it kinda worked for them and I guess that's all that matters in the end.

Why did I always arrange my life so that I was on the brink of collapse?
The answer came to me as
if it had been waiting for the question.

Because happiness is useless to me. Because I need agony and heat in my life.

The "Night Owl" series is marmite... You'll either love it or loath it. Actually, let me correct myself. It's more Matthew Sky that will have that reaction but then I don't need to fall in love with the main character to enjoy a book and that was absolutely the case here. I cannot get enough of Matthew and Hannah's story and I couldn't put this second book down. The plot was original, the characters so unique and just when  I  thought I knew how it would all end, M Pierce went and threw a curve ball in just to mess things up a little more, leaving me desperate for the final instillment   last Light" was one big tangled web of lies, deceit and manipulation and I for one cannot wait to see what the future holds. I. Couldn't rate it anything less than 5 Hearts... Yup a full house. I can't recommend this series enough.

Review: Jo Rushton

OMG!! M Pierce has done it again. "Last Light" was amazing. I made the mistake of reading it before my bedtime and once I had finished it, I just couldn't get to sleep. I just kept thinking about this damn book!! I have a huge book hangover this morning.

Matt is still one of the most confusing characters I have ever met. How can one guy bring out so many emotions in me? One minute, I love this man to bits, the next I want to strangle him and then I want to call the doctor, convinced that he needs psychiatric treatment. Matt had my head in a spin and I was finding it increasingly difficult to work him out. There was many times when my heart went out to him. Often he just appeared so vulnerable but then there was times when he acted like a complete ass.

Why did I always do the worst things?
Why did I always arrange my life so that it was on the brink of collapse?

One way or another, he always seemed to make everything worse. But despite this, it would be impossible to say no to him. Especially when it got down to the nookie. Matt was as hot as ever. So sexy and domineering.

"I'm your slut, Only yours, Matt. Just for you."

I have always liked Hannah and I found myself feeling sorry for her in this second part of the story. She was left to deal with so much after the disappearance of Matt. If I was her, I would have been tempted to disappear too. She also had to put up with Matt, which wasn't an easy thing to do. Hannah deserved a medal! It's a good job Mat was hot and gave plenty of good orgasms!! This girl totally deserved them! lol.

Everything was so fucked-up. So many lies. A castle of lies.
And Matt was it's king, and I was it's queen.

Last Light was intense. Gripping. Utterly addictive and kept me on my toes every step of the way. It was impossible to predict how this story would turn out. So much was going on. So many twists and turns. My stomach was in knot's. Especially the last twenty percent. And once I reached the end, the amount of expletives that poured out of my mouth was insane. What a way to end a book. Genius!!

I need the next book ASAP!!!

A well deserved 5 stars to M Pierce for yet another fantastic book!

Excerpt:

Matt insisted on carrying me to the bathroom. I hugged his neck.

“Matt, you realize I can walk with a black eye, right?”

“I’ll be the judge of that.” He set me on the counter and I squeaked; the marble was frigid under my bare bottom. He dropped one of my bath bombs in the tub and watched it fizz and color the water purple.

Once, I managed to convince Matt to use a bath bomb with me. It was called a “sex bomb” and it was supposed to “put us in the mood” with “exciting scents” and “natural pheromones.” I grinned at the memory. As soon as Matt realized the bomb was coating his skin in sparkles, he leapt out of the tub ranting about “looking Twilighty” and “smelling like a girl.”

“What’re you grinning at?”

“You.” I smiled. “And this bath, which is such a transparent effort to avoid saying goodbye. Sweet… but transparent.”

Matt frowned and paced the small space of the bathroom. Ha! I was right. Matt planned to leave me in the tub and slip away.

My poor, adorable night owl—he really had issues with goodbyes.

“No,” he mumbled. “Maybe…”

“Can I induce you to stay a little longer?” I uncrossed my legs deliberately and spread them. Matt watched. He folded his arms and tilted his head.

“How does your cheek feel?”

“They’re cold.” I grinned.

“And you say I’m bad.” He slid me off the sink and turned me. I watched our reflection through the patchy steam on the mirror. Matt—God, he was so tall, and the look on his face was arresting. He wanted me. I knew that look.
