Blog Tour & Giveaway: Missy Johnson's "Wicked Innocence."

The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be a part of the Blog Tour & Giveaway for Missy Johnson's "Wicked Innocence."

Synopsis:

Don’t let my petite and innocent appearance fool you, because I’m one person you don’t want to cross. I’m Micah, the youngest member of Resurrection…If only they knew how young.

My fake ID says I’m twenty-one. And I will be…in four years.

What can I say? I blossomed early. Home sucked, so I left, determined to do something with my life.

Landing the gig as lead vocalist in the band was a dream come true. I’ve worked hard to make something of myself and nothing is going to ruin that for me.

Then He showed up. Saxon Waite, ex bad boy of rock.

He’s hot as hell and so into me.

But he’s also twenty-five.

I don’t want to lie to him, but if the truth comes out I’ll lose everything. Including him.

Review-Jo

After spotting the teasers to this book and reading the synopsis, I found myself really looking forward to getting my hands on this one. I'vee read other books by Missy Johnson and loved them so I couldn't wait to dive in!

From here on in, I would only look forward, and do everything in my power to live my life
the way I deserved. I'd let down the only person I'd ever loved,
and I was damned if I was going to let that happen again.

The prologue immediately pulled me in and I was intrigued to see the direction this story would take. For me (unfortunately) it failed to deliver in the way that I had hoped and for that I as truly gutted.

The idea of the story was one that I loved. Micah pretended to be 21 concealing her true age of 17. There were, I learnt, strong reasons for doing this. Micah had lived a depressing life and as such left home at a young age, determined to make a new life for herself. Micah had an apartment, a job and her own car. She was independent, head strong and resilient, all qualities that I admired, especially in someone so young. She also had a dream of being in the music industry so when she got offered a place in an up and coming band she was ecstatic! Micah's dream was about to come true.

Sax was a hot rock star in the band Micah had just joined although he didn't appear to live the rock star life. No drinking. No drugs. No girls. I was surprised by this and wondered why. There was definitely more to Sax then met the eye and I couldn't wait to find out more.

Sax and Micah found themselves attracted to one another, but it wasn't just sexually. They really did click. Micah and Sax were crazy about each other and when they moved things to the bedroom. Well, they were smoking hot!! This couple could not keep their hands off each other.

"So you think I'm hot?"
"What do you think?"
"I think I want you to kiss me."

Despite Micah and Sax's intense feelings for one another, Micah's secret was casting a shadow over any hopes of a future together. I wondered how long it would be  before the cat was out of the bag and when it was, how would that affect the couple?

"There is now way this could end well. The longer it goes, the worse it becomes. At some point,
he is going to find out. Things always have a way of coming back to bite you on the ass."

So, reading all of the above, this story sounds like it would be a fantastic read but for some reason it just did not capture me in the way that I had hoped it would. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike the story. I just felt that maybe it was a little rushed and I wasn't given time to really get to know the characters well enough. Both Micah and Sax had stories to share but I felt that the writing only skimmed through their back stories and I felt that there was still more to discover.

On a positive note, I enjoyed the characters, not just Micah and Sax but the secondary characters too. I would love to have gotten to know them a bit more too, especially Harry and Dee. I was pretty sure something was building between those two! I also enjoyed how the book was written. It was told from both Micah and Sax's POV which I enjoyed. I prefer this way of writing as it feels like you truly get to know about the characters thoughts and feelings.

This story only took me few hours to read but I could have easily continued. Which also brings me to the way the story ended. It totally confused me! I felt that it ended so abruptly and I was left wandering if there was going to be a sequel because I feel that there easily could be. I was left wanting more!

So, Missy Johnson, if you are reading this, I would happily welcome more from Micah and Sax and the rest of the band. I'm sure there is many a story to tell from Saxon Waite and Resurrection!

Wicked Innocence get 3.5 (Wish it could be more) hearts from me!

Excerpt:

He reached into his pocket and pulled out his ipod. “Put on some music if you like.”

I took it, letting my fingers glide over his. His eyes darted toward me briefly and my heart jumped. I quickly looked down, busying myself with his music collection. I ran through artists until I came across Severed. Smiling, I clicked play.

“You have your own music in here,” I said with a giggle.

He shrugged. “If I don’t appreciate it, then why should I expect anyone else to?”

“I guess. I just think it’s cute. Like an actor going to see themselves at the cinema.”

“You don’t think Nic Cage or Brad Pitt go to the movies?” he asked in mock horror.

“I don’t know. I met Brad Pitt once in Starbucks.”

He chuckled. “I can just imagine how that went down.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.

“Well, you were kind of freaked out when you realized who I was. Meeting someone actually famous? You’d lose the plot,” he laughed.

“Well, in my defense, I didn’t have posters of Brad Pitt all over my walls—” I shut my mouth, but it was too late. No, no, no…

“You had posters of me on your walls?” he repeated, amused. “Micah, that is adorable.”

“Shut up,” I mumbled, coving my face with my hands. He chuckled loudly next to me, clearly not ready to let this go. “No! No laughing. Just shut up and drive.”
