Don't you just love it when you read a book and it ends up completely taking you by surprise? "Somewhere With You" was like that for me. It was my first book by this author and I wasn't sure what to expect, however I was not disappointed. This truly was a lovely story that melted my heart and I enjoyed this book so much that I'd love to see it made into a film.
Somewhere With You follows the story of Amelie and Jack. The couple first met as kids during a summer camp where a friendship was formed. As the pair grew, so did their feelings for each other, changing from being purely platonic to something so much more.
Their story continued, spanning, many years, years filled with love, friendship and many missed opportunities. I loved reading this beautiful journey the couple took, both together and apart. Their story was just so delicious that I couldn't stop reading and by the time I'd finished it, I felt like I'd really gotten to know the characters well. I adored watching Amelie and Jack change throughout the years.
At the beginning of "Somewhere with You," I didn't really like Jack. He came across as a little arrogant for a ten year old. But as he grew so did my feelings for him and by the end of the book, I had fallen, hook, line and sinker in love! I loved how much he cared for Amelie. He truly became her rock, her soul mate.
"I don't know how to let you go, Amelie."
"I know you don't. You never did."
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"It means that I want you to let me go. For good, this time."
"Maybe you are fucking crazy. That's not gonna happen. I love you Amelie."
Amelie was a happy, easy going kind of girl who was determined to live a fun filled and adventurous life. It was impossible not to take to her. She was just so lovable! However, there were moments where she frustrated the hell out of me, especially with some of her actions. But as the story progressed and things came to light, I found that I understood her more and the reasons behind her behaviour
"That was Amelie; colorful, exciting, and a bit crazy. From then on Jack would always think
of her like a carnival, minus the bad parts. She would sweep into town and bring with
her all the excitment one could handle. You'd have the time of your life while she
was there. Inevitably, though she would go, and with her a little piece of yourself.
Little did he know then...he would spend the rest of his life chasing that feeling."
I am not going to say anymore about this story because I don't want to ruin what is a beautiful and heartwarming tale. The only one negative thing I have to say about this book is that there was no epilogue!! I was so disappointed. I just wanted to know what the future held for Amelie and Jack and I was gutted that I finished the story without ever knowing.
"You know, it sounds crazy but even the worst of times
with you somehow still end up being the best times of my life."
I am looking forward to reading more from Britney King.

She blinked back tears and eyed the restraints around her wrists. “Yeah. You could say that.”
They laid there in silence for a long time before Amelie spoke again. “Jack.”
“Yeah?” He recognized that tone.
“I don’t want you to you see me like this anymore. I’m no good for you. I’m going to tell them that I’ll go. I’m going to go to this place they’re talking about sending me, and I need you to let me go. I need you to promise me… that you’ll let me go without a fight.”
Jack shifted in the bed. “You mean you want to go, then?” He narrowed his eyes. “I don’t understand. You’re not crazy. You’re just sad. There’s a difference. But around here… I don’t know… it’s like the twilight zone. No one listens.”
She sighed. “I don’t know what I want anymore, Jack. I just want to stop hurting everybody I love. I can’t take the pity I see in your eyes. Or the disappointment in my mother's. Maybe I am sick. Maybe I’m not. All I know is that whatever this is… it’s bigger than me. And I don’t want to feel this way anymore.”
He played with her fingers, unable to meet her eyes. “But… I don’t know how to let you go, Amelie.”
“I know you don’t. You never did.”
Jack looked up then. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means that I want you to let me go. For good, this time.”
“Maybe you are fucking crazy. That’s not gonna happen. I love you, Amelie.” He snickered.
She turned to face him as best she could. “No. I’m serious. I’ve never caused anything but trouble for you. It’s what I do. I find a way to destroy everything and everyone around me. And eventually, I’ll destroy you, too. Just look at what I’ve managed to do already. I’m not taking you down with me, Jack. I’m not.”
His gaze was fixed on her now. “That’s bullshit, and we both know it. This is life. It’s not perfect. It is what it is. But you don’t give up. You don’t just give up.”

The extended version and in third person no less ;): Britney is married to a man she adores (when he isn’t driving her crazy) and is the mother of FIVE pretty amazing kids, who (surprise!) also have a habit of driving her crazy. Her best guess is that it’s genetic. She is the author of three novels, Bedrock, Breaking Bedrock, and Somewhere With You, with plans to release fourth and fifth in 2014. In addition, she founded a local network for women in 2012, which has grown to nearly 1000 members. Currently, she occupies a job she enjoys–serving and running Austin Women’s Network. To further prove that she may in fact be certifiably insane, she decided to pursue her dreams and published her debut novel in May of 2013. Then and only then, could she consider her training to be an expert (life) juggler complete.
