The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be a part of the Blog Tour for Autumn Karr and Sienna Lane's "Vendetta."
(Giveaway at Bottom of Post)

Synopsis:

I am not a good man.
I have lied and cheated and stolen. I've decided between life or death, like it was my due. None of it matters, not anymore. These are not my sins.
I see her raise her hands, the dark metal she's clutching reflecting the moonlight. Her finger trembles as she cocks the gun pointed at me. Her eyes are cold, determined, but I know.
I know her.
My name is Devon Andre and I confess my sin. I am not a good man because this is the woman I love.
She pulls the trigger.
* Standalone contemporary romance.
* Mature reader advised due to sexual content and strong language.

Blog Tour Review: Surj Harvey

"Vendetta" was about forbidden love. It was about revenge, loyalty, betrayal and treachery. It was about power hungry people who would stop at nothing to sit at the head of the table and it was about the innocent who got caught in the cross fire:

There are no innocents in our world. We are born tainted.

When Devon Andre kidnapped Leighton Moore, the last thing he expected was to fall in love with this hot headed beauty. After all, she was the daughter of the man who'd had a hand in killing his parents and he was after blood... an eye for an eye... isn't that what they say?

Leighton Moore, the daughter of Keith Moore- the man who took everything away from me.
And one day, sooner or later, she'd be just another casualty of that crime.

Well throw into the mix the fact that both were born into mob families who were arch enemies, I had a gut feeling a HEA would not be a walk in the park for these two.... it would most likely be carnage!!!

Devon and Leighton were so similar in character but then they were both brought up in a mob environment where the values instilled into them were less than conventional. On the surface, I saw two people who were fearless, hard as nails, who were fighters, who had a fire in their belly... two individuals who showed true loyalty to their families regardless of their crimes (it's the mob, what do you expect!!!).

Devon had a presence about him. He exuded power, confidence and capability. But sometimes,
when he thought no one was watching, I caught the brokenness in his eyes.
I wanted to wipe away that look, to fix everything that was broken.

Peel back a few layers and I really did see another side to them.. Beneath a carefully constructed mask, I saw two individuals who had a conscience, who felt guilt, hurt and heart break. I saw two individuals who had a vulnerable side, who were so torn by their feelings for each other and their loyalty to their families, I honestly didn't know which way they would go.

She knows the way our world works, and why we were a mistake from the start.
That she should have never hoped for anything when it came to me, because ultimately
we're enemies, and you can't afford to have mercy on your enemies. She knows all of it.

Each time I saw hope for them, each time I saw a softer side to Devon, I prayed he would choose her but each and every bloody time, I was left devastated because ultimately, nothing had changed, his parents were still dead and it was payback time. It's all about the family!!!

You are smart and beautiful and strong, and the most amazing woman I have ever met,
and I fucking hate you for it because it still doesn't change who you are.

"Vendetta" was definitely an unpredictable read which was full of drama, action and intrigue. The plot overall definitely held my interest but there were a few moments where twists were thrown in and I found myself second guessing what I'd read. I don't want to spoil it but lets just say, one of the twists related to Devon and Leighton's relationship which seemed to go against everything I was led to believe. It was odd because even with chapters told from alternate POV, I was never so much as given an inckling regarding the twist. Don't get me wrong, it was good but it seemed to come out of nowhere, I just feel that the build up to it was executed really badly (like not at all!!!).

In terms of emotions, for some reason I didn't feel as much angst, heart break and emotional turmoil as maybe I should have with this book. I'm not really sure why that was.... I don't think I could pin point any one specific thing. There was a lot of nervous anticipation but there were none of those heart dropping moments, even when the events in the synopsis played out. Yes I was gutted a couple of times when the plot didn't go in the direction I wanted it to but that was it. However, please don't take these comments as a reason not to read this book  because I still couldn't put the it down. It was definitely a gripping read right through to the last page.

Overall, I did enjoy "Vendetta" despite the couple of hiccups mentioned. It was good, just not mind blowingly great. I rated this book 3.5 Hearts

Excerpt:

“Don’t think, Devon,” I say, standing up and pulling it over my head, dropping it aside. I walk backwards to my bed and undo the clasp of my bra, letting it dangle on my finger and then fall to the ground. I take my sweatpants off, leaving me in nothing but my panties. When he doesn’t say anything, doesn’t tell me to stop, I sit down on the bed and watch him.

The heat in Devon’s gaze, the intensity in his expression makes me feel like I’m the sexiest girl in the world. He stands up slowly, and walks over to me, his eyes still connected with mine. He gets down on his knees, so his face is almost level with mine. I watch as he takes his fill of me, a soft curse escaping his lips as his gaze touches my breasts.

“I don’t want you,” he says hoarsely, but there’s no fight left in his voice. My breathing hitches as I wait for him to finally touch me. I don’t dare speak. Putting my palm on his cheek, I decide to make the first move since he won’t. Bringing his face closer to my body, I gasp when his tongue finally peeps out and slowly traces over one nipple, and I know that he’s decided to give in. He pulls my nipple into his mouth, sucking gently, and then running his teeth over it. I squirm under his touch, wanting more. His mouth releases its torturous hold on my breast and trails wet kisses up my chest, my shoulder and my neck. By the time he reaches my mouth, I can feel how damp my panties are, and my thighs are trembling. He swipes his tongue across my lips, begging entrance. He kisses me hungrily, delving into my mouth, tasting me. He pushes me back onto the bed with the force of his body, grinding his hips into mine. I feel his erection pressing into me, and it gets me even more excited. Grasping my wrists in his hand, Devon liftsmy hands above my head and presses them into the mattress. His other hand traces from my temple, over my cheek and jawline, and finally rests on my neck. Pulling his mouth away, he rests his forehead against mine, his breathing as heavy as my own.

“I don’t fucking want you,” he says desperately.

“Devon,” I gasp out when he starts slowly moving against me, our clothes the only barrier between us. He instantly jumps away from me, his expression closing off. He throws a disgusted glance my way as he stands up and takes two steps back, leaving me bare and vulnerable.

Then he turns his back on me and leaves.
