The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be a part of Lisa De Jong's Blog Tour for "When it Rains."

~4.5 Hearts Review ~

One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

Blog Tour Review by Jo Rushton:

This story was such a big fat tearjerker but it is so worth every tear that fell. I loved it!

The main character in "When it rains" was Kate. Kate had a past that had left her completely broken. She was unable to move past the events that haunted her, and getting through each day was a struggle. Kate was just such a fragile, sad, scared and lonely character and I my heart truly went out to her.

"It took seventeen years to build my foundation and it took mere minutes to tear it down. I hate him. the old Kate is gone...and she's never coming back. And I'll always hate it when it rains."

Her life... if you could call it that was just so tragic.

"My once perfect view of the world was broken, and all that remained
were a bunch of broken pieces that I couldn't glue back together."

Kate had been best friends with Beau for what seemed like forever. He was her only friend and as much as he tried to get her to open up, it was never going to happen. I felt so sorry for this man... it didn't matter what he did, how hard he tried, they would never be more than friends. Maybe if things had been different... but life is full of maybe's and in the end, Beau reluctantly moved away to college leaving Kate more alone than ever and beau completely heart broken.

There were moments I honestly wondered whether there would ever be light at the end of the tunnel. Would this girl ever get a break?

Well, let's just say, I felt a glimmer of hope when I was introduced to Asher. Now this guy was full of mystery and intrigue. Who was this guy? Where had he come from? and what the hell was he keeping from me? Oh yes, it seemed Asher also had a secret. The more pages I turned, the more I started to really like Asher but the more I was starting to dread his secret being revealed. It was just a feeling I got and it wasn't good.

Asher knocked down those walls Kate had built to protect herself and finally, she was starting to open up. It really felt like he was meant for her but that feeling just wouldn't go away and I was just waiting for something to happen... for it all to go horribly wrong.

"I want to know you, I want to be there for you, but I don't think being your friend
is going to work for me anymore. I want to kiss you whenever I want. I want to hold you.
I want you to tell me all of your secrets and eventually tell you all of mine. I want you in my life."

Asher and Kate's relationship was a beautiful one. I loved reading their journey together especially their little "facts of  the day" and all of heart felt things he did to help heal Kate.

"You gave me my life back. You cared about me enough to push past my demons.
You made me want to be with you every minute of the day because
you made me feel things that no one else could."

Life was getting easier for Kate but then, bam!! My worst fears were proved right and Kate's life yet again took a downward spiral. Get your tissues ready for this chapter, it was an emotional one. I cried so much my husband wondered what the hell was going on (they'll never understand our connection to our books!!!)  Maybe one day he'll get used to my tears whilst reading, I seemed to have done it a lot lately (lol).

Please don't let the tears put you off reading this book though because it was brilliant and the epilogue was just a perfect ending to such an emotional story.

This is the first book that I have read by Lisa De Jong and it definitely won't be the last. I'll definitely be reading more from this fabulous author. I rated "When it Rains" 4.5 hearts

“What’s wrong? What did I do?” The ache I hear in his voice makes my heart fall a little further into my stomach. This is my fault, not his.
When I felt Beau’s body on top of mine, I could see the anger in Drew’s eyes and feel the way his fingers dug into my skin. I just want the memories to go away.
“Fuck. Kate, please say something!” Beau says with a strained voice.
I flinch, wrapping my arms around my stomach. “Can you please just take me home?”
I want to tell him. I want to tell someone, but I can’t.
He stands in front of me with his hands folded behind his neck. I back away, making sure to put an arms-length distance between us. “Jesus, will you please just tell me what’s going on? I can’t keep watching you pull further and further away from me.”
“Just take me home, Beau,” I whisper before walking in the direction of the truck. When I hear him call my name, I stop and turn my neck to look back at him.
“I can’t keep doing this shit. Why won’t you talk to me? Give me one reason!” he yells, gripping his hair between his fingers.
“You don’t want to hear it. Trust me,” I cry, covering my mouth with my hand. Just thinking about telling him everything makes the bile rise from my stomach. No one wants to hear that good little Kate isn’t who they think she is. She’s been damaged.
“Try me,” he says, sounding tired and frustrated. “Nothing you tell me will change the way I feel about you. Nothing.”
