Synopsis:

They say that madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...but what happens when the very person that brought your heart back to life has the ability to shatter it with one confession?

After an explosive affair left their hearts battered and scarred, Georgia and Tristan are trying for a fresh start. She is determined to take it slow and not repeat the mistakes of the past, while Tristan is willing to throw caution to the wind as long as he has his dark-haired girl in his life...and in his bed.

But Georgia and Tristan can't shelter their love from the outside world, and the moments of exquisite passion they share aren't enough to sustain the relationship. When scars from the past resurface—will their hearts meld together as one? Or will outside forces tear them apart, leaving an empty shell where love and passion once thrived?

Blog Tour Review:

Oh I really don't know where to start with this review. I was really excited to read "Light in Mourning" because book # 1 in the series was just so amazing and I couldn't wait to get another dose of one very hot Tristan Thomas Howell but for me, this book fell a little short. I know... gutted right? It wasn't a bad read, it just didn't live up to everything I thought it would be (but then to be fair, it did have big boots to fill).

"Light in Mourning" began when Tristan and Georgia parted ways because of the storm, Georgia promising to return but not doing so. The first few chapters were told from Tristan's POV so I got to see everything he went through in her absence and he was well and truly devastated. This woman got gotten under his skin and had crawled into his heart and for love nor money, she wasn't going anywhere:

Little did I know this girl would find some long forgotten corner inside my heart
and crawl into it. Imprint herself on my soul and refuse to leave.

At first, my heart went out to him because he really was hurting but then he started to annoy me a little and I just wanted to shake him. God he was moping and everything was just so doom and gloom. He also did a few silly things that really didn't help his cause and I did wonder whether they would come back and bite him on the bum later in the book. My Tristan had well and truly lost his spark, that energy and I wanted it back.

So when the story did catch up to where "The Mourning After" finished, I thought right, now things will start to ramp up. I'll start to feel all giddy and excited and nervous and everything..... nope it didn't happen. Georgia didn't want to rush things.. fair enough... they'd both been through so much but 18% later, things were still going slow and I wanted more. I was starting to feel a little deflated. I was hoping that when they did finally get it on, it would be worth the wait and thank god it was. Unfortunately, once they started, they didn't stop, these two were at it like rabbits!!!

I saw a very different side to both Georgia and Tristan's characters in this book, almost a role reversal. Georgia was so much stronger and much more independent now where Tristan seemed so much more vulnerable, insecure and even scared at times:

"When I got back to DC, I just... was consumed by Kyle. He's like that;
takes over my whole world... we always go back to each other."

These words consumed Tristan and the fear was always in the back of his mind that she would leave him again. I saw a desperate man trying to create a permanent connection to the woman he loved but some of the things he said or suggested just seemed so ridiculous and spur of the moment... there were definitely some eye rolling moments from me. A couple of times I even found myself saying "Oh for God's sake... really Tristan?" He was really starting to grate on me.... I know tell me about it.. the man from book # 1 seemed to have vanished!!!

Their path to happiness was never going to be straight forward:

I wondered if this would be our battle. He would always fear that I would leave,
and I was afraid his past would forever haunt us.

Not only did they have their own insecurities to deal with but there were a few twists to the story I didn't expect (plus Kyle also reared his ugly head). I honestly thought these chapters would send my head in a spin and my heart rate into overdrive but they really didn't. The drama seemed relatively short lived and was over before it had started which left me.... STILL WANTING MORE.

It was great catching up with the other characters from "The Mourning After" and seeing where their lives had taken them but I think this book was more about the development of Tristan and Georgia's relationship and finding an even ground to move their relationship forward. I missed that angst, the drama, the butterflies in my stomach, those heart dropping moments and I just wanted my man back... my Tristan but he didn't come!!!

The book does finish at 93% (kindle) with the epilogue starting at 85% so it is quite a short read but the book does give Georgia and Tristan an ending they deserve.. yes they finally get their HEA with no hangups or insecurities!!! Yay
I rated "Light in Mourning" 3 - 3.5 Hearts
