Synopsis:

“Love had been stolen from me for reasons entirely my fault. But then a miracle happened, and Pim gave me something I thought was lost forever. She gave me a love I’d earned. Love that ruined me. Love that made me hopelessly hers…”

Once upon a time, I didn’t think I’d ever be normal.
Now, I’m talking and trusting, and it’s all thanks to Elder.
He gave me my life back, and I gave him my heart, but love stories like ours are never simple.
I did something to protect him.
He did something to survive me.
We screwed up.
And now, it’s no longer just about us.
It’s about safety, sanctuary, and sin.

Review: Surj

Oh Pepper Winters, you have absolutely slayed me. I've got to start with the ending of "Thousands" because OMG, that was explosive, it was epic, it was crazy, it was just ... wow. I don't think my heart will be returning to it's normal rhythm any time soon. Holy cow, such an expected turn of events that has me so excited and so giddy yet so nervous and anxious too!!!!! I'm sorry I had to start my review with this but trust me, when you get to the last few pages, you'll understand why I feel the need to scream and shout about it!!!!!

My ugly truth was out, and this woman treated me as if
I was so, so strong for surviving it.

Okay, so now on to the main body of my review for "Thousands." This 4th instalment in the "Dollar" series was such an emotional rollercoaster ride of a read and my heart truly hurt for both Pim and Elder. Pepper Winters continued to use my vital organ as a punch bag time and time again and just when I thought there was light at the end of the tunnel, that my emotions might get a reprieve, she'd deliver another blow leaving me devastated.

In "Hundreds," we got to strip back the many layers of Pim and Elder and  really got an insight into each of them as individuals. We saw each of their characters develop and change and we were really able to get a handle on their hopes, dreams and fears. In "Thousands" we saw a continuation of this , with both characters trying to come to terms with the people they had become as a result of circumstance. Pim really came into her own in this book, embracing her new found strength and feistiness and to be honest, out of the two, she really was the stronger one. She knew exactly what she wanted and had every intention of getting it.

She was no longer my prisoner- she was my jailer, and I would happily
remain sentenced to her for the rest of my godforsaken life.

Elder continued to be a tough nut to crack. He felt like he was consumed with grief and guilt. It appeared his life was ruled by obsession, addiction and obligation and there just seemed no way of overcoming it. It was like ground hog day. Two steps forward, two steps back and start all over again. He was dealing with so much it felt like he was drowning at times,  the weight of his demons crushing him.

When it came to Elder and Pim as a couple (or not as the case may be), god did I feel the intensity of their struggle. With so much baggage, so many demons and so much fear, I felt their desperation of wanting to be together but equally the fear that was tearing them apart. I willed for things to work out between the couple but I knew that Mrs Winters was not going to make it so easy. She was going to make my heart bleed before she allowed it to be glued back together.

This was pure fucking love, and I sank to the bottom
of it and I didn't care if I drowned.

There were a number of revelations that came to light in this book which meant a number of big questions I'd had were finally answered. But of course this is Pepper Winters so be prepared for more twists and turns because as you already know, this story is definitely straight forward. And with the past and present inevitably colliding, be prepared for those heart stopping, jaw dropping moments that will steal your breath away.

I will hand it to this author though because I definitely felt like a kid on Christmas morning, being spoiled as I came face to face with characters I'd grown to know and love from previous books. Oh ho my heart did a happy dance!!!

She was the opposite of me. She was everything good, and the more I
fell for her, the worst I dragged her into my world and made her bad.

"Thousands" was such an intense, emotional read with Pepper's words ensuring that every word, every emotion was felt down to my very soul. But I gotta say, I need "Millions" like yesterday!!! Seriously, I need the ending. I need that HEA!!!!

I rated "Thousands" ❤️❤️❤️❤️
