Review: Aly Martinez's "Fighting Silence (On the Ropes #1)."

Synopsis

Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?

I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.

You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.

They both happened anyway.

Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.

Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.

I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

Each book in this series can be read as a standalone.

Review: Jo

This was one of those books that has been on my kindle for a while and as soon as I started reading it, I realised that I should have read it sooner. I loved this book so much. To anyone thinking that this is just another love story involving a hot fighter, I have to reassure you that "Fighting Silence" was so much more than that. It has become one of my favourite books in the sports romance genre.

"I'd never had anything I could call my own, but Eliza Reynolds would always be mine."

Till Page was a fighter in every sense of the word. From a child his life had been pretty rough, but he fought his way through it with the support of his childhood friend, Eliza. I absolutely loved Till. He was a guy who had so many knocks throughout his life but each time he got back up to survive another day. I loved how faithful he was towards his younger brothers, determined to make a better life for them. Till was selfless in the way that he cared for his brothers. I adored the relationship that he shared with Eliza. My heart melted each time they were together. I swooned at each word that came from Till's mouth and delighted in watching the couple's relationship develop to something more. Till was one of those guys that could do nothing wrong. He owned my heart from the very first page.

"I can't have you without claiming you forever."
"Then claim me. I'll claim you too."

I loved Eliza, she too had been through some bad times. Meeting Till and his brothers was the only thing that she valued in life. She loved the bones of all three page boys, especially Till. Eliza was the perfect girl for Till, she was there for him no matter what, even though at times Till made things difficult. I loved how Eliza fitted into the Page family, helping them through all of their many dramas. Eliza was the rock that Till so badly needed.

"You always say that you love me, but you have given me so much more.
And because of that, I will spend a lifetime fighting to give you the world. "

This story was addictive, I just could not stop reading. My kindle was in my hand at every opportunity as I was desperate to remain in Till's world for as often as possible. When real life called me back, I was gutted! Lol. All though this story was full of heartache, I loved every single minute. From start to finish I was rooting for something good to happen for Till, Eliza and the boys but I often wondered if they would ever find their happy ever after. They seemed to have so much bad luck between them. The only joy that they shared was the fierce love that they had for each other. Their relationship was so beautiful. My heart was full of love for Till and his family.

"If it means you guys are taken care of,
I will sit in silence for the rest of my fucking life."

If you have this book on your kindle, I urge you to read it today. If not, I highly recommend one-clicking it. "Fighting Silence" has stolen my heart and I can't wait to read the next two book in the series. It gets 5 hearts from me.
