Synopsis:
Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs Series.
As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.
Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.
Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.
That's definitely not part of the plan.
Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.
But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits" begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.
Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely.
What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?
The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

This book was so, SO good!
I was gutted to finish this book. I could have read about this little group forever! Emma Chase writes some of the most exciting and loveable characters. First we were given Drew Evans in Tangled and now we are treated to Stanton Shaw in this book. Both completely different, but both equally as attractive!
"These legs," she admires aloud.
"They were made to be kneeled at."
I chuckle darkly.
"Thanks for the compliment, darlin'. But no more talkin' now -
I have much more interesting uses for that mouth of yours."
The story starts with Stanton as a teenager, getting the shock of his life when his current girlfriend, Jenny, finds out she is pregnant. Fast forward 10 years and Stanton and Jenny are living miles apart, whilst Stanton pursues his dream of becoming a defense attorney and Jenny brings up their daughter, Presley. An arrangement that has worked perfectly for both of them in the past 10 years. Whilst they are apart they see other people.. but always come back to each other. They are the end game.
And then life interferes. Jenny is no longer waiting around for Stanton, she's met somebody else who she plans to marry, and Stanton is getting busy with his colleague, Sofia, but what will he choose? To try and split up Jenny and her fiancé or finally realise his feelings for Sofia that are rapidly growing? I seriously had NO idea who I wanted him to choose. One minute I loved the idea of him rekindling the love with his high school sweetheart, but on the other, his relationship with Sofia was new.. exciting. I changed my mind so many times.
"What if I told you I had to have you again? Feel you clamping down around
me so hard I see heaven. That I can't stand the thought of not fucking those hot,
breathy sounds out of you, until you scream my name?
Would you let us do that one more time, even if it's the last?"
Ultimately, this story was.. brilliant. Emma's story telling is just so fresh and exciting. I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, who he was going to end up with and finally how on earth it was going to happen. I loved the story and the characters equally.
I can't wait for the next book in the series. I can tell this will quickly become one of my favourites.
I rated "Overruled" ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
