Blog Tour and Giveaway: R.J Prescott's "The Hurricane."

The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be a part of the Blog Tour and Giveaway for R.J Prescott's "The Hurricane."

Synopsis:

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Review: Jo

What a fantastic read this book turned out to to be. I loved "The Hurricane" and I found myself quickly becoming swept up in the delicious love story between Cormac and Emily. I was hooked from the moment I began reading.

For some crazy reason, O'Connell had chosen me and like the hurricane that he was,
he'd blown into my life whether I was ready for him or not.

Cormac O'Connell (AKA The Hurricane) was a part time fighter and a lovable rogue. Spending his days either at work or working out at the boxing gym and his nights surrounded by an endless supply of women. O'Connell didn't take life too seriously. That was until Emily entered his world and suddenly forced him to up his game. For the first time in his life O'Connell had something he had to work for.

She was beautiful, and there hadn't ever been
much of anything in my life you could call beautiful.

Emily was the complete opposite of O'Connell. She was quiet and shy. Spending most of her life hiding in the shadows. Because of an awful past, Emily found it hard to trust anyone, always looking over her shoulder and choosing to live her life alone. My heart went out to her and I understood her fears. Now at university, Emily was beginning to come out of her shell, making new friends and attempting to live the best life she could. I adored her character. She was sweet, kind and caring. Despite her traumatic upbringing, she was a gorgeous person who just needed someone in her life that could keep her safe and protect her from her dark past. Emily needed a hero and luckily for her , she was about to find one!

Logically I knew that falling for this guy would break every rule that had ever kept me safe,
but where O'Connell was concerned, I felt as though I was stood at the top of a precipice,
powerless to stop myself falling into the oblivion.

Emily first met O'Connell when she was offered a job working at O'Connell's boxing gym. The pair both fancied each other like crazy and the chemistry between them was so strong that it was impossible to avoid. Despite their feelings for one another, Emily was happy to be just good friends but O'Connell was determined to win her heart. There was no other girl for him, she was it and he wasn't going to let her go.

"Tell me you can feel this. I need to know I'm not the only one."

For me, this was my favourite part of the story. I loved watching O'Connell work his way into Emily's life. He became relentless in his approach. Nothing was going to stop him getting his girl. I loved watching the couple's relationship develop. O'Connell melted my heart with the way that he cherished Emily, the way he cared for her and how he wasn't afraid to hide his true feelings for her. He truly was Emily's hero. This fighter may have been a bit rough around the edges but deep down O'Connell was a big softie with a beautiful heart that opened up as soon as he saw Emily.

"We're family now, Em. I'm yours and your mine and no one
can take that away from us unless we let them."

This book wasn't just about Emily and O'Connell's love story. With Emily's traumatic past threatening to ruin her future, the couple had to work together to ease her pain and fear. My heart broke for Emily and I was so glad that she had found O'Connell. He was willing to do anything to help her feel safe and secure. I loved seeing Emily flourish when she was surrounded by people that loved her. Not just O'Connell but his gang of buddies and Emily's group of university friends all played a part in keeping her safe. It was a joy to see Emily and O'Connell so happy together. Of course, I knew that it wouldn't last. I knew there would come a time when Emily's past would return. I just kept my fingers crossed that O'Connell was around when it did, for both of their sake's.

O'Connell wasn't a knight. He was battle scarred dragon
that would lay waste to armies to protect me.

As well as the romantic parts of the story, I also loved the fight scenes as O'Connell fought his way to the top. Being with Emily gave O'Connell the drive that he needed to succeed in the boxing world. These parts of the story made me nervous but also excited. I felt that I was in the middle of the film "Rocky", ready to start chanting O'Connell's name alongside Emily!

He took my heart with him every time he climbed into the ring,
and he didn't give it back until he climbed out again safely.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Hurricane" and I am looking forward to reading more book's from this debut author. Written from mainly Emily's POV, I thought that the story was well written although I would have preferred to have had a few more chapters told from O'Connells POV. When it came to the end of the book, I was left wandering if this story will be continued as I felt that the ending suggested that there could be another book. I definitely felt that O'Connell and Emily's story was far from over or maybe R.J. Prescott is planning to write a story involving the other characters? I can't wait to find out.

He was my complete opposite in every way, but his soul was the other half of mine.
He was loud to my quiet, the confidence to my shyness, the rage to my pain.
Separately, we were broken and alone. Together, we were blissfully happy and complete.

If you love books that contain a hot, alpha fighter such as "Beautiful Disaster" and "Real", this is one that I recommend adding to your kindle. I loved "The Hurricane" and rate it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Author Bio:

I was born in Cardiff, South Wales although I left to study law at the University of Bristol, England. Four weeks before graduation I fell in love, and stayed. Ten years later I convinced my crazy, wonderful fire fighter husband to move back to Cardiff with me where we live with our two equally crazy sons. Juggling work, writing and family doesn’t leave a lot of time, but curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate for family movie night is definitely the best part of my week. “The Hurricane” is my debut New Adult Novel.
