Review: colleen Hoover's "Maybe Not (Maybe # 1.5)."

Synopsis:

Colleen Hoover, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe Someday brilliantly brings to life the story of the wonderfully hilarious and charismatic Warren in a new novella, Maybe Not.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

Colleen Hoover never fails to deliver an amazing read and "Maybe Not" was no exception. I absolutely loved this little novella and I can hand on heart say that for the most part, I read it with the biggest, cheesiest grin on my face. Warren and Bridgette's story was just brilliant. It was one of those books that had that feel good factor woven through the pages and by the time I was finished, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much and my sides hurt from all the laughing I'd done... in fact it was just what the doctor ordered.

“If you have sex with me, Bridgette, you’re the one in danger of becoming clingy.
You’ll want so much more of me, I won’t be able to tell the difference
between you and Saran Wrap.”

For those of you who read "Maybe Someday" a while back and can't really remember where Warren and Bridgette fit in, honestly, it won't take long for everything to slot back into place, especially because of the cross over in time lines of both these stories and the descreet reminders Colleen Hoover gives us. I remember Warren as being the prankster, a bit of a joker but more importantly, the guy who had an unhealthy obsession with porn. Oh yes, he watched it every living, breathing moment he could and it didn't matter who he was in the company of. In this book, I discovered where this addiction came from and it had me howling with laughter... I got it... I completely got it and trust me, it made for some really interesting reading!!! Lol. I fell in love with Warren more or less straight away... how could I not. Told solely from his POV, getting inside his head was..... how should I put it? .... Enlightening  but in the best possible way. The more I got to know Warren, the more I realised there was more to him than first meets the eye. There was a hidden depth to his character and as much as I loved the stunts he pulled, I also loved his relentless persistence of the girl that had caught his eye. This guy was a true romantic at heart and some of the things he came out with were just swoon worthy.

“You did smile, Bridgette, and you need to own it, because it was fucking beautiful.”

Yup, words like that sent me all gaga like a silly teenager.

I remember Bridgette as being the moody, angry roomy who didn't have a nice word to say to anyone and who had a habit of shouting and slamming doors.... uncomfortable? uhhh yes it was if you happen to live with her but I was dying to know what her deal was and what had turned her soooo..... anti people? As much as "Maybe Not" was a light hearted read, it was Bridgette's history that added a serious edge to the story but that was fine because it helped me understand her character and her behaviour. However, I loved how (slowly but surely), Warren peeled back the layers and honestly, this girl was a walking, talking contradiction. What you saw on the outside wasn't necessarily what you got on the inside and I warmed to Bridgette really quickly as I'm sure you will.

The banter between Warren and Bridgette was hilarious, with all the to-ing and fro-ing between the pair making for an entertaining read. Each of them gave as good as they got which I absolutely loved because the more they verbally sparred, the closer they happened to get and trust me, when they got close, boy oh boy did they get close!!! Yup, like "did the temperature in this room just go up like 100 degrees" HOT!!!

You kiss like you’re trying to resuscitate a dead cat,” she says, disgusted.
“You kiss like you are a dead cat.”
“You probably fuck like a limp noodle.”
“I fuck like I’m Thor.”

Colleen Hoover managed to fill this novella with so much good stuff and honestly, I'm not sure how she did it because never, at any point did it feel rushed. The relationship between Warren and Bridgette developed at a perfect pace and all the revelations that came to light slotted in seamlessly giving me a beautiful, funny and even emotional story line. Thank you so much for another wonderful story Mrs Hoover... now I need more..... as always. i rated "Maybe Not" ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

‘She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.’
