Synopsis:

As Reapers Motorcycle Club president, Reese “Picnic” Hayes has given his entire life to the club. After losing his wife, he knew he’d never love another woman. And with two daughters to raise and a club to manage, that was just fine with him. These days, Reese keeps his relationships free and easy—he definitely doesn’t want to waste his time on a glorified cleaning lady like London Armstrong.

Too bad he’s completely obsessed with her.

Besides running her own business, London’s got her junkie cousin’s daughter to look after—a more reckless than average eighteen-year-old. Sure she’s attracted to the Reapers’ president, but she’s not stupid. Reese Hayes is a criminal and a thug. But when her young cousin gets caught up with a ruthless drug cartel, Reese might be the only man who can help her. Now London has to make the hardest decision of her life—how far will she go to save her family?

Joanna Wylde... I'm a officially a Reaper's MC groupie!!! No really I am. I just can't get enough of this series, the men, the women, the drama, the romance (and not forgetting the very hot sex), I get giddy with excitement just thinking about it. Honest to god, your books are freakin' amazing and to top it off, knowing that "Reaper's Stand" won't be the end of the road for this MC has thrown the butterflies in my belly into the mother of all frenzies!!! Yup, we're getting more... quite a bit more by the sounds of it and I'm already on the case in terms of which characters might get their own books!!! Oooohhh the possibilities are ENDLESS... and that my fellow readers truly is a thrilling prospect!!!!

One of the things that I absolutely love about the Reapers MC series is that, despite there being some core themes that run central in each book, each story feels completely different to the next, unique in it's own right, the characters truly making it their own and I couldn't think of a better example of this than with this fourth installment which gave us Picnic's story. (Reese Hayes).

"I don't think I understand bikers."

"That's OK babe. You'll figure it out."

I love a bad ass biker as much as the next girl and throw in to the mix the fact that he was the head honcho and lordy, I was happy as a pig in s**t!!! However for every positive quality this man possessed, and trust me there were definitely a few: he was protective of those he loved, he was passionate, he had a determination that was second to none and he was persistent if nothing else.. for all of that, unfortunately there was an equal measure of assholeness that drove me crazy. One minute I wanted to kiss him... the next I wanted to kick him!!! Boy did Reese Hayes leave me conflicted.

London was a woman who had a real inner strength which is a good job too because Reese would have eaten her for breakfast otherwise (OK so maybe he did do that on one or more occasions ... sorry I need to drag my mind out of the gutter!!!). London was a fantastic leading lady and just what our bad ass el presidento needed. I loved her drive, her selflessness, her fighting spirit and mostly, the fact that she had her own voice and definitely wasn't one for over think things. She was practical and I'd say that definitely protected that fragile heart of hers. Her dry sense of humour was fantastic and her inner monologue just hilarious. This just added to her overall kick assedness.

"You got shit timing." I didn't respond because what the hell would I say?
So far as I knew, Hallmark didn't make a "Sorry, I interrupted your oral Sex" card.
Maybe I should write to their corporate office to suggest it.

Reese and London were perfect for each other and the very obvious chemistry they shared only reinforced that. Every time they were in the vicinity of one another, my heart raced in the hope of a touch, a kiss, a naughty encounter, something... anything and each time I got what I wanted, it was so passionate and so darn heated, I found I had to calm myself down. Unfortunately, nothing in the land of biker is every straight forward and this couple would have to jump many a hurdle before they got their HEA....first and foremost Reese's childish ways ... oh yes tantrums were his specialty and then of course there were the issues with families. Both would do everything possible to protect those nearest and dearest to them but that meant sacrifices being made which usually lead to a whole heap of TROUBLE ... well this is biker world. It wouldn't be the same without the odd gun battle here and there now would it.

The only thing worse than destroying the man you care about is destroying him after he makes
heartbreakingly beautiful love to you. I was still going to do it though. I didn't have a choice.

However, "Reaper's Stand" was a little different in that respect. Joanna Wylde really has done her research when it comes to the MC culture and in Reese's story, she really pushed the boundaries. I knew the Reapers weren't saints. I knew they had their fingers in a lot of pies (usually the unsavory kind) and yes, of course I knew they dabbled in illegal activity. However, this book seemed delve a little deeper into that way of life, giving me a frank, honest, no sugar coating insight into the underbelly of some this club's operations and trust me, it wasn't pretty. There was no romanticising of situations that more often than not left me feeling sucker punched and sick to my stomach. Good lord, as much as I loved these boys, I did not want to get on the wrong side of them!!! We'd seen how club rivalry had escalated in "Devil's Game" but trust me when I say, that was child's play compared to what I read in "Reaper's Stand."

"People don't always give us full credit for our warm, fuzzy side,
but it's definitely there. We just love to help."

"Fuckin' Mother Theresa of the MC world," Ruger chimed in. "Brings a tear to my eye."

Picnic's story was just wow and as much as I may have highlighted how much of a pain in my ass he was, he truly was a lovable rogue and his book is actually my favourite of the series so far. Reconnecting with Horse, Ruger, Bam Bam and the old ladies as always, made me feel like I was home and I cannot wait to see which Reaper's book I get next ... nothing on GR as yet but it will come!!!! I have a hunch but let's wait and see.
I rated Reaper's Stand 5 hearts!!! The best yet!!

Excerpt:

“Okay, let’s get some shit straight and then you can head out.” Great, here it came. The Talk. Fortunately I was ahead of him for once.

“Don’t worry, Reese. I know this was just a one-off for you, and that you don’t want a relationship. That’s what I needed, too, so in a way it’s perfect. No harm, no foul. We can just pretend this never happened.”

A scowl covered his face. “What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Us. Or rather, the fact that there isn’t an ‘us.’ I get it—you like to sleep around. I had a good time, but I’m not expecting a ring or anything.”

His eyes widened, and I smirked.

“Although I’ll be around if you want another booty call,” I added slyly.

Yay me! I’m a sophisticated woman who knows the difference between love and sex.

Reese’s scowl grew deeper, and then suddenly he moved and I was under him, pinned down against the bed. He pulled my hands up, holding them prisoner above my head.

“Are you fucked in the head?” he demanded harshly. “You get laid for the first time in years, it’s phenomenal—”

“Well, aren’t you the modest one?”

“It’s phenomenal,” he repeated, emphasizing the word heavily. “And now you’re just going to ignore me? I am not fuckin’ down with that.”
