Blog Tour & Giveaway: M. Pierce's "Night Owl."

The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be a part of the Blog Tour & Giveaway for M. Pierce's "Night Owl."

Synopsis:

Love is unstoppable...

At twenty-eight, Matt Sky has the perfect life. He has a beautiful girlfriend, a massive inheritance, and four national bestsellers -- all penned under his airtight alias, M. Pierce.

At twenty-seven, Hannah Catalano has a train wreck. Her boyfriend is a deadbeat and her job is abysmal.

Matt and Hannah meet online as writing partners. Their relationship is safe, anonymous, and innocent...

Until Matt sees a picture of Hannah.

Hannah's picture sparks an attraction Matt is powerless to ignore. When circumstance brings Matt and Hannah together, the strangers begin a love story that's passionate, poignant, unforgettable, and unstoppable.

Review: Surj Harvey:

Holy hell fire, there's nothing like throwing a reader straight in at the deep end M Pierce. Oh no. From the first page I knew exactly what I was getting into and despite not liking the whole lying, cheating element in books, I just couldn't put this one down. It was like nothing I'd ever read before and it had my emotions all coiled up like a tight spring!!! Did I like where the story was headed? No! Did I like the male lead? Hell no!

Matt was a writer who penned under a ghost name. He went to great lengths to maintain his privacy and keep his anonymity and so there were rules for people he worked with... rules that were never supposed to be broken:

"No pictures," I told Hannah on Skype. "No specifics, no last name, no phone number.
Nothing. I don't want to know you, and I don't want you to know me. We write together online,
that's it. I'm not looking for a new friend. I'm looking for a writing partner."

In fact when it came to this man, there was very little even I (as a reader) knew about him. He was a writer... oh yeah... and he had a girlfriend who was off travelling around South America. That was it and to begin with I just couldn't work him out. He was odd... like really odd... then that turned to just plain old weird which then turned into a little pervy: You know that question "So what are you wearing?" Yup, he came out with that old chestnut and got away with it) and then I got a bit of a psycho side to him which kinda reminded me of a potential scene in one of those old cult thriller films:

A few yards down, almost directly across from the lot,a street lamp illuminated the figure
of a tall man. He was stood at a slant and held a leash. At the end of the leash was a small lump
with tall ears. Evan snickered. "Oh my god, is that a dude walking a rabbit?"

See, do you get where I'm coming from?

The more the relationship developed between these two, the more I got to know Matt and he was one complicated guy with a temperament that gave me whiplash.. one minute he was hot as hell and then next, he was cold as ice. He even managed to acquire the name "Mr Frosty Pants." Poor Hannah never knew which Matt she was going to get from one minute to the next... and that is literally how quickly he changed:

"Matt's smirks came in flavors -- two parts kindness, one part wicked amusement,
a little lust in the mix. Oh, and one hundred percent smug bastard."

One thing was for certain.. he liked control... in his life, in his relationships and most definitely in the bedroom. The sex scenes in "Night Owl" were pure and utter filth on the most part and I loved them. They were filled with need, desire and desperation, even humiliation in parts but hey, it worked for them so who was I to judge. Matt had one very dirty mouth and once he started with his talking it was like verbal diarrhoea... there was no stopping him:

He told me I was wet and tight for him. He told me it almost hurt.
he told me i needed a good long fucking and that I was his- his slut, his baby,
that I made him so hard, that he was going to fuck me again and again and again.

But Hannah love it. It was like she was addicted to this man and she just couldn't get enough. I really connected with her character. She was like the girl next door... fun loving and very family orientated. Yes when it came to Matt, she was virtually a submissive but she had her moments where she tested his control and tested his patience... the punishment usually involved a spanking (lol). Further on in the book, I found a real strength in her character... it was a strength that would see her through some very tough times.

Matt and Hannah's relationship didn't just revolve around sex though and it wasn't all about domination and submission. Every now and again, I got a glimpse of a really emotional, loving, gentle side to the couple and unfortunately, that just confused the hell out of my feelings for Matt. Did I completely dislike this man? Did I not get him as a character? Was I actually starting to like him? Gah!!!!

At 60%, an unexpected curve ball threw both characters lives into the mother of all tail spins. This is where I feel I really got to know Matt and Hannah properly. I got to understand Matt and his bevaviour... his jealousy, his possessiveness, his insecurities, his need for control and at one point, even paranoia. So there it was... Matt's vulnerable side laid bare:

She left me alone in the riddle. I needed her because I loved her— or I loved her because I
needed her. Why had the feelings turned to a maze? Now I was lost in the dark.
In my dreams I ran paths walled with high hedges.
Always the leaves brushing me like laughter. Always the long night.

Suddenly I was starting to feel sorry for him. The shift in his character and the chapters from his POV honestly made me want the old Matt back. This guy had managed to completely jumble my emotions and had somehow managed to get me on his side!!!!

"Night Owl" was fucking fantastic. The characters and the story line really pulled me out of my comfort zone and there were so many moments I was left with that feeling that I shouldn't be liking what I'm reading! I loved the bits I probably shouldn't have (wink wink) and couldn't get enough of the rest of it. This was a love story like no other and it did have a HEA ... that is until I read the epilogue!!! Did I read that right? I couldn't be sure so I went over it and over it and shit the bed my heart was left in my mouth!!! I couldn't believe it!!!! And so now I play the waiting game, dying to get my hands on book # 2.
I couldn't begin to give this book anything less than 5 Hearts. Pure brilliance in every sense.

"I never want to," I said.
"What? Never want to what?"
"I never want to learn how to say goodbye."

Excerpt:

Matt had a sprawling, high-rise apartment in downtown Denver. I probably should have guessed. The rooms were clean and modern, harshly white, with light hardwood floors and gorgeous area rugs. The fixtures were all of matching brushed metal and the décor was spare but tasteful. I recognized a framed John Singer Sargent print on the wall.

Matt loomed as I padded through the neat, quiet rooms. Each time I smiled at him, I thought I caught a glimmer of anxiety in his expression. Why would he be nervous? Was my opinion really that important to him?

"This place is lovely," I said. "It's amazing. I can't believe it was ever messy."

"Oh, I had a maid come through," he said.

"Laurence!" I squealed when I saw the rabbit's hutch in the living room. The hutch was as swanky as Matt's apartment, made of beautiful varnished wood with little gold knobs.

"Your lady love is back," Matt said to the rabbit.

We watched Laurence hop around his hutch for a while. Matt's hovering was making me uneasy—and strangely aroused. He hadn't touched me yet, but I knew he planned to. I assumed his bedroom was down the hall.

Was something wrong? Tension and desire made my stomach clench.

We drifted into the kitchen, Matt right at my back.

"Nice." I swallowed and brushed my hand over the granite countertop. Even the kitchen was immaculate.

I could feel Matt behind me. I thought I heard him take a soft breath. My skin prickled. God, if he didn't touch me soon—

I exhaled in a rush as Matt brought his chest flush against my back. He pinned me to the edge of the island and cupped my breasts from behind. I moaned.

"Are you ready?" he whispered in my ear.
