Synopsis:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers hearts in Fallen Too Far.

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

Review: Surj Harvey

From the first moment Blaire pulled a gun on Grant Carter in "Fallen Too Far," I knew I was going to like this guy and all the way through this series, I became more and more desperate for his story. He seemed kind, caring, generous to a fault and always there when those closest to him needed his help... including Nan!!!! (Grrrr). But I have to say, as I started reading "Take a Chance," I wondered where my beautiful man had gone. In his place, I got someone who did some not very nice things and hurt those he cared about. It was a bitter pill to swallow knowing the man I'd put up on a pedestal could be a bit of a pig at times!!!

“My kitten has claws and apparently only you bring them out.
Sleeping with the evil sister has put you on my baby girl’s shit list.”

Harlow and Grants story wasn't a straight forward romance. Unfortunately, their journey to finding a HEA was fraught with fear ... fear of love, fear of being vulnerable, fear of being used, fear of feeling weak, a fear of loss, a fear of depending on someone else ... you name it they had insecurities about it and because of this, they fought their feelings for each other!!! Why oh why oh why when they fit so perfectly together???? During the first third of "Take a Chance" we were given an insight into how this couple met and how the connection between them developed. But because this part of their story was told through chapters from the past interwoven with the present, I knew what ever they had shared had ended badly... very badly. What the hell had happened? Where did it all go so wrong? It wasn't pretty and when Harlow was forced to move to Rosemary Beach for nine months whilst Kiro went on tour, she was not only faced with one enemy but two.... Nan and Grant!!! How the hell would she ever survive? Obviously old feelings that had been buried resurfaced but the events from the past were like daggers to Harlow's heart and she wasn't the kind of woman to forget!!!

“Three kinds of women in this world. The kind that suck you dry and leave you
with nothing. The kind that only want a good time. And the kind that make life
worth a damn. The last kind... that right woman’s the one who gives as much as
she takes, and you can’t get enough.
She’s the kind... if you lose her, you lose yourself.”

Harlow's character had a strength to her and she didn't suffer fools gladly. Fool her once.. shame on you... fool her twice... shame on her!!! But then when you're the daughter of a rock star and people only use you to get close to the band, you need an inner strength to protect yourself. The only person you can rely on is yourself. I really felt for Harlow at times because she really struggled to connect with people... that fear of being used always in the back of her mind. But this girl was hiding a secret and that became quite obvious very early on. I wanted in on it but Abbi Glines would make me wait until right at the end!!! Bloody hell what a secret it was too and boy did it change things!!!!

“I’m not the kind of girl you plan forever with.”

Grant's character left me so confused. I really wanted to love him like I had Rush and Woods but he wasn't helping his cause. He just kept cocking up, doing stupid things that drove me crazy. I know he had issues when it came to commitment and I know he hadn't had the best role models for love and relationships when he was growing up but he was an ass and I wanted him to wake up and smell the coffee!!!

"...all I could think was what if I loved someone that much and I lost them? How could I live?
I decided I never wanted to be that vulnerable. I never wanted to love someone that much.
I never wanted to face losing the one person that owns me."

The penny did finally drop a third of the way in and then began the process of redeeming himself!!! Boy did this man have a lot of grovelling to do and by no means was it going to be a walk in the park!!!

I loved that Rush and Blaire had bigger roles in this book and I think the main characters definitely needed their support and guidance. Abbi Glines also threw in a very hot Texan cowboy by the name of Mace who was Harlow's brother. This man was mighty fine and definitely deserves his own book!!! Come on ladies.... a Texan cowboy!!!! (fans self!!!). But I think it was Nan that riled me up the most. I could hear her screeching in my head and it was like nails running down a chalk board!!! God did that woman ever stop wailing... she was most definitely the mother of all bitches and nothing changed in this book... if anything she was even worse!!!

“If you think she could be the one then it’s time you take a chance.
If I lost all that I have tomorrow, I wouldn’t regret one single minute.
Ever. They’re what makes my life worth it.” - Rush

The twists and turns that were delivered in "Take a Chance" were brilliant and very unexpected taking the story in a direction I could never have predicted and the final revelation... Bloomin hell did that leave the mother of all cliffies!!! More.... I need more... and I need the opportunity to fall in love with Grant because I'm not quite there yet but I really want to be!!!

Abbi Glines really does know how to give her followers a reading experience very few authors manage to pull off so perfectly. She makes her books come alive by giving us information so we can picture the settings and characters clear as day in our minds. For me, reading one of this amazing lady's  books is like watching a movie playing out in my head and I love every minute of it. Rosemary Beach is a place I'm so familiar with now. I can see it, smell it, feel like and almost touch it and I love getting lost in that world even if it is only for a few hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, with all the drama and angst and rated it 4 Hearts!!
