Synopsis:

She has a secret.

I’m complicated. Not broken or ruined or running from a past I can’t face. Just complicated.

I thought my life couldn’t get any more tangled in deceit and confusion. But I hadn’t met him. I hadn't realized how far I could fall or what I'd have do to get free.

He has a secret.

I’ve never pretended to be good or deserving. I chase who I want, do what I want, act how I want.

I didn’t have time to lust after a woman I had no right to lust after. I told myself to shut up and stay hidden. But then she tried to run. I’d tasted what she could offer me and damned if I would let her go.

Secrets destroy them.

**Pepper Winters is known for her Dark Erotica. This book is more a Grey Romance. It isn't fluffy, and still deals with darker subjects, but it isn't brutal.**

Destroyed is a complicated love story between a man with a terrible past and a woman who holds his cure. A man who finds redemption in love and a woman who loses her heart and reason for living.

Death brings life, and destruction brings new beginnings.

Blog Tour Review: Surj Harvey

“Invisible impenetrable, invinicible.”
"Kill, sever, bleed, devour."

God I need to compose myself.... I'm a blubbering mess....water works is one thing I wasn't expecting when reading this book...hell no. Pepper Winters does dark, twisted, fucked up... she is NOT supposed to do dark, twisted, fucked up, let's rip the readers heart out and shred it into a million pieces!!! There were moments I honestly felt devastated, broken, destroyed and I had to actually stop reading because I couldn't see through the blur of tears. How could you Mrs Winters? This book was brilliant, amazing, a master piece that had me on the edge of my seat because there were so many directions this story could have taken, so many potential avenues and that's what made it all the more appealing.

The beauty of this world was hidden by filth and lies while evil was painted in beauty and smiles.

"Destroyed" told the story of Roan Fox and Hazel Hunter... two individuals who had secrets... secrets that gnawed away at them every living breathing moment, secrets that invaded sleep and turned dreams into nightmares, secrets that had the power to destroy them. Roan and Hazel should never have met... but they did and from the minute their eyes locked, their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their desires were forever changed.

This was not an easy story to read and if your looking for the perfect hero, you won't find him here... in fact Pepper Winters is an expert at writing about men who (in reality) should make your skin crawl and make you run a mile but instead, we don't. We're intrigued, inquisitive like children and we want to know more. We want inside their heads, inside their minds and we want to know what makes them tick and Roan Fox was no different. He should have made my blood boil but instead my heart ached for him.

Either smile with your fucking soul or don't bother.
Probably why I hadn't smiled since I was six. My soul was dead.

Roan was a man haunted by the ghosts of years gone by... they'd invaded every aspect of his life, controlling him, dictating his behaviour, ensuring he would forever be shackled to the sins of his past. Sins we were given glimpses of through flashbacks. It seemed the redemption this man sought would not be coming any time soon. Fuck if I'd ever read anything so tragic, so brutal, so horrifying ... this was a new one for me but that's what made this story so unique, so different. My feelings for this man were so conflicted ... The majority of the time I just wanted to fix him, to help him heal, to love him unconditionally but on a couple of occasions, he infuriated me. Yes I know there were rules when it came to him and the rules were there for a reason but...... gggrrrr

"You didn't say anything about bondage."
"It isn't bondage. It's protection."
"Protection? From what?"
"Me."

Hazel's character completely blew me away. Her past had not been a bed of roses but she'd turned her life around. Unfortunately it didn't matter which way she turned though because luck just wasn't on her side. Fate was a cruel son of a bitch and it decided to play it's worst hand of cards. Her story is one you'll read with a heavy heart but I admired this woman. Her strength, her resilience, the sacrifice she made ... the more I got to know her as a person, the more her story wrapped itself around my soul and squeezed... slowly and painfully.

Only when I looked directly into her eyes did I taste just how much passion, fear, strength,
sadness and rebellion lived inside her. She was like an unlit firework- contained
and neatly packages on the outside, but a hazardous explosion on the inside.

I truly wanted Roan and Hazel to work despite the complexities of their story but there was so much going against them ... the biggest thing... their secrets and just as I thought everything was out in the open, another revelation would leave me wondering whether the connection they'd formed would last the test of time. It was hurdle after hurdle, obstacle after obstacle, two steps forward, ten steps back.. it was never going to be easy... I knew that but describing what they had as difficult was an understatement. I wanted them to be the balm that would help the other heal but this wasn't something that wasn't fixable overnight. What I did know was that whatever they had, whatever the pull, the attraction... it ran deeper than I could have ever imagined and that's what lead them back to each other time and time again.. it was screwed up that's for sure.

Her touch shattered me. Her touch awoke me. Her touch destroyed me.

Pepper Winters... your writing never ceases to amaze me... the words just so poetic, full of life, full of meaning, full of emotion. And the opening lines/ paragraphs of each chapter (which have become synonymous with a Winters book) truly had the power to either lift my spirits or crush me.

I couldn't help but get sucked in to the tangled world of this couple.... it was uncomfortable, it made me feel things I shouldn't, it made me furious but most of all, through all of this I found something that was just so beautiful yet so tragically broken. Chapters told from Hazel and Roan's POV and flashbacks from the past all just flowed so seamlessly, feeding me with the knowledge I needed, I craved to understand these flawed characters and their actions. It made for compelling reading that's for sure.
Resurrection. Redemption. Resolution.

Gray this book was not. It was a dark, angst filled, torturous read that wrapped itself around my soul and dragged me into what was a beautiful nightmare. I loved it and would whole heartedly recommend it. I rated it 4.5 Hearts
