Blog Tour Review: Kirsty Lander

This book was absolutely INCREDIBLE!

I can not believe that this is Christine Brae's debut novel. Where have you been hiding? The writing was flawless. Right from the off I was engaged and I wanted to know everything. The prologue was so captivating that, when I started reading late at night, I found myself carrying on until my eyes couldn't take anymore! I'm now sat here writing my review, wondering how on earth I am going to possibly do it justice? For me, I find it the hardest writing a 5 star review that I loved so much. How do I find the words to give the book the credit it deserves?

"The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much,
and forgetting that you are special too."

The story is told in such a clever way. As I said, the prologue has you hooked. We then are in the present, with more clues and snippets in to Isabel's life, before we are taken back to where it all started - Isabel as a child. I can't recall reading a book where we are given so many important detail about the characters life. If you had told me this beforehand, I may have worried, "Would I be bored by all of the history?" Well, in short, no. Every single piece of information told is vital. So important in the understanding of Isabel.

I guess this book is a love triangle. Isabel is with, and had spent 7 years with Jesse, whom she believes is the love of her life. She has stood by him through thick and thin, given up her dreams when he asked, foregone certainly clothes and make up. You name it. All to please the love of her life. But what does she get in return? She loses herself. Slowly, piece by piece, we witness Isabel losing parts of herself, becoming a shell of the person she used to be. It was so heart breaking. So, when Alex, a guy she has been friends with for years, starts to show more of an interest in her, how is she supposed to refuse? With his David Beckham looks (SWOON.) and his overwhelming love, how can she deny herself?

"Jesse was the hot flame that torched my heart,
while Alex is the ever-glowing coal that keeps the fire burning, steady and unwavering."

I'm not going to lie, I was not a Jesse fan at all. Yes, I could see he loved Isabel but it was never with his full heart. Alex on the other hand, he never wavered from his love for Isabel, all the times she wasn't his, he never let her go. He never gave up. Christine Brae didn't make it easy for me when choosing my winner, but in the end, Alex would always win hands down. I just wanted Isabel to make that decision too. There was back and forth, there were times when I wanted to crawl in to my Kindle and choke her, but ultimately I understood every single good and bad decision that she made.

Again, I don't know how I can sum up how incredible this book was and how much I loved it. The characters were unique, the writing was out of this world and the story was unlike anything I've read. There wasn't a polished, pretty, tied up in a bow happily ever after, but there was a real, honest and full of love one. Each character got where they needed to be and I was full on crying happy tears when I got there too.

"A second love is more subdued. It's more careful, more cautious.
But it's still love and when it comes with respect and admiration and friendship,
it trumps passion and elation any time."

I rated "The Light in the Wound" 5 huge Hearts

About The Author

Christine Brae is a full time career woman who thought she could write a book about her life and then run away as far as possible from it. She never imagined that her words would touch the hearts of so many women with the same story to tell. This is her second and final book in the Light in the Wound series. Her third book is scheduled to come out in late 2014.

When not listening to the voices in her head or spending late nights at the office, Christine can be seen shopping for shoes and purses, running a half marathon or spending time with her husband and three children in Chicago.
