Within the first 10% of Reaper's Legacy I'd fallen in love and I'd fallen hard. Holy Jesus, my heart was literally a fluttering mess and my breath had hitched more times than I care to count. "Reaper's Legacy" completely held my attention (OK so maybe it was more Ruger) but I was desperate to see the direction this book was going to take. Obviously it wouldn't be the straight forward boy meets girl, they fall in love and live HEA route because that would be a whole heap of rubbish.... and bikers... well as a general rule of thumb, nothing they ever do is without a shit load of drama and angst and so.. that's exactly what I got. Ladies, buckle up because you're in for one hell of a bumpy ride (oh and have your killer heels at the ready too because there are going to be moments where you're really going to want to step on a few of the characters toes... like really hard so that you inflict pain!!!)
"Reaper's Legacy" began with Sophie aged 16 losing her virginity to Zach. What should have been a beautiful, romantic, touching experience shared with the boy she loved was more akin to watching a car crash in slow motion. Everything that could go wrong did ... from being caught in the act by bad ass biker Ruger (Zach's step brother), to the condom splitting to then being turfed out of the apartment.. could anything else possibly go wrong? Well yes because when that shit pile is on a role, life can't help but just add to it!!! Yup the condom splitting equated to a pregnancy which in turn led to the birth of the cutest little boy ever... Noah. Unfortunately, Zach turned out to be a jack ass with Ruger ending up being the only role model the little boy had. Without giving anything away, the first 10% of "Reaper's Legacy" had some really heart melting, emotional moments that left me completely swooning over said biker. Those moments were just beautiful and the connection that was formed between Ruger and Sophie was one which would be life long whether both characters wanted it or not!
Fast forward 7 years and Sophie was living in a dive of a place with Noah struggling to make ends meet with no support from her own family or Zach. So who should be her knight in shining armour? None other than Ruger of course and his method of saving her was HAWT!!!! No kidding he got my heart racing and he got Sophie's panties all wet (crude I know but it's the truth):
"The fact that my dick's in it's happy place is probably saving your life. Trust me when I say
I'm seriously considerin' strangling you, Sophie. Thinking about fuckin' you balances that out."
This man left me and my emotions in such a mess. One minute I loved him, the next I wanted to bash him over the head and knock some sense into him. He was biker through and through... and lived the biker way of life!!! And I mean the whole kit and caboodle and that applied to women too. The club was his family and it didn't seem he'd be compromising any time soon. He was stubborn as a mule, pig headed even but he got brownie points for his honesty. He said it how it was whether you liked it or not and unfortunately, more often than not, it just plain and simply wound me up. This man was good though, because at quickly as I could turn the page, he had me eating out of the the palm of his hands again. Ugghhh!!! Trust me, even if you can't stand this man, the meaning behind his tattoo's will leave you wanting to marry him!!!
My heart really went out to Sophie because luck just didn't seem to be on her side. Trouble just followed her around and it didn't matter how hard she tried, she just didn't seem to catch a break. I could see that she was a good mother and Noah always came first so when it came to moving in with Ruger, I could understand her reluctance. She didn't want Noah growing up in a MC environment and unfortunately as she got to experience the biker way of life first hand, her worst fears were confirmed. It was like a baptism of fire, one that made her want to run like hell.
The chemistry between Sophie and Ruger was there... it always had been but both of them tried desperately to fight it using Noah as a reason not to take things further.
"I'm not trying to start something with you, Sophie. You realise how fucked up things
would get if we started screwing? I'm not looking for a relationship and
I'm not a one woman guy. We gotta work together for Noah.
But boy did it get hot when they were around each other. So many close encounters that had me all fired up... but mostly they led to the feeling of cold water being thrown on me!!! I wanted to see his piercings put to good use (yup he had 'it' pierced and he knew exactly how to make a woman scream his name!!! But alas, Sophie was close yet so far away!!! Even when they crossed the line, Ruger the big neanderthal decided to put a spanner in the works!!! (remember said killer heels... yup this was one of those moments I really wanted to inflict pain). I was so glad Sophie stuck to her guns... OK so her vagina might have taken over her thought processes a couple of times and she may have gone back for seconds and thirds but when that penny finally dropped, she knew what she had to do.
"Reaper's Legacy" was a brilliant second book to the Reaper's MC series. I loved the story line and the build up of the sub plots. This book definitely wasn't short of mystery, suspense, drama and action, but hey, we're talking bikers here so I wouldn't have expected anything less. I laughed (yup there was definitely humour) but I also stamped my feet in frustration!!! One thing I will say, this book isn't hearts and flowers and it's not a walk in the park. If you want conventional romance, you won't find it here. What you will find is a rawness, a grittiness that will have your emotions completely riled up but that's what I loved about it. It got to me and so did the characters which left me in a whole heap of a tangled mess.
It was brilliant catching up with all the characters I'd met in "Reaper's Property" and I finally got to see Horse and Marie tie the knot!!! Joanna Wylde has definitely laid the ground work for future "Reaper MC" books especially with Em. I can't wait to see how that pans out!!!
