~4.5 Hearts Review ~

Synopsis:

DEE

I’ve always been good at wearing masks. Not letting anyone see the real me. I’m content being the happy-go-lucky best friend. The strong willed boss. The independent woman who doesn’t need a man.
But the truth is I’m just as broken as the rest of you. I’m terrified that all it will take is one person to make all my carefully constructed walls crumble into fine dust. So I guard my heart with everything I have. Determined to never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again.
All is perfect until HE walks into my life. No… he doesn’t just walk. He struts his good-looking, sex-oozing self right into my space and demands that I see HIM. Making me want what I know I can’t have.
So I did the only thing I know how to do.
I run.
But he just won’t let me go.

BECK

The second I see her, I know she will be mine. I see past the gorgeous smiles and heart-stopping laughter. I see HER. She doesn’t want me to know her secrets or the past that haunts her, but I make it my mission to find out
To make her mine.
She can run all she wants, but it will never be far enough to stop me from coming after her.
She’s it for me and she knows it.
She’s just too scared to admit it.

Blog Tour Review: Surj Harvey

Wow Harper Sloan, I loved, loved, loved this book. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in the men of Corps Security (OK so I had a little wobble with Cage) But I'm back to swooning, going weak at the knees and giggling like a silly school girl. These men are to die for... yup you heard right.. TO. DIE. FOR!!! And the women... kick ass... although it might take them a while to get there.

Denise Ann Roberts (Dee) life hadn't been an easy one. The emotional and physical abuse she suffered as a child had really affected her, not that she would ever let anyone know. Even those closest to her, didn't have a clue. See, Dee wore a mask that she never allowed to slip and as such, she suffered in silence:

I look like the happiest person in the world. I look like I have everything I want out of life.
That everything is perfect. And that is what I want everyone to see. But, inside? Inside, I'm dying.

I could feel the pain, the sorrow and the struggle she went through and it broke my heart. Her parents had never been shy in telling her they wished she'd never been born and most people who associated with her in her younger years, did so because of the connections to her family. I could whole heartedly get the trust issues she had. Unfortunately, the demons she carried around weren't going anywhere any time soon.

There were moments I have to say, where Dee was almost at the point where she could have become irritating. I know her life hadn't been the best, but when you're reading, you want to see at least some positive shift in the healing process... right? Well Harper Sloan, I take my hat off to you because just as I was bordering on the brink of love and hate, you threw me a few nuggets of information that really helped me understand what this woman was going through. Let's just say, there was so much more than Dee had ever told anyone and as the secrets came out one after the other, I felt devastated for what this woman had gone through alone. Brave doesn't come close. My advice.. keep reading... everything will fall into place. And yes, she does move forward with her life, she does heal and she does become a stronger person through it all (thank god!)

There are times in my past when I want so desperately to let my steel-enforced walls down.
To let a man in. To believe they won't hurt me. But then I remember all the pain from the past,
and all the pain they have ever caused me, and those walls get thicker and thicker.

So where does Beck fit into the equation? Well, this story takes you right back to when Axel and Izzy were first reunited in the night club all them years back. Well I can't say it was the happiest of reunions but that was the first time Dee and Beck clapped eyes on each other and boy did the sexual chemistry between these two suddenly explode. Oh yes and so it began. But Dee made it clear from the start, this was friends with benefits... no more:

"Yeah, Beck I want this but this is just going to be fun.
No attachments, no love notes, and no promises."

Beck also made it clear he would do everything in his power to change her mind. If nothing else, he was persistent. He saw a side to Dee that not even her friends had noticed. He saw what was inside... he saw her hurt, he saw the pain and so he made it his mission to be the one who would help her through it all. OMG could this guy get any better. Just when I thought he was all out of tricks to make me swoon, he'd pull another rabbit out of the hat and I'd fall even harder. I was a pile of mush by the end of this book. Beck.. you stole my heart and I have to say, so far you are my favourite of all the Corps Security men!!!

The relationship between Beck and Dee wasn't simple and it wasn't straight forward but the one thing I admired in Beck was, he wasn't going anywhere. Through thick and thin, even when she shut him out completely, he waited for her and he would continue to do so because she was the one (see, another "big sigh" moment).

OK so let's talk sex!!! Well the sex between these two was hot... like heated, passionate, all consuming and when they'd gone a round, they were usually surrounded by carnage: broken dining tables, broken lamps, sheets on the floor, chairs on their side... do you get the picture? Just brilliant!

This book wasn't just about the relationship between Beck and Dee. As with the other books in the series, there was a sub plot which will keep you on the edge of your seat. The mother of all curve balls that was thrown in ... I don't even know what to say. Let's just say, Harper Sloan could have taken the easy route with some of the outcomes but no. This lady has balls because she completely went against the grain and I have to say, I'm actually glad. It took guts but it was realistic. I can't wait to see the fall out from it!!!

"Tomorrow is never a guarantee; live life to the fullest and never stop smiling."

I loved seeing my old favourites back. Sway with his glitter brought the humour (but also brought the tears at one point) and Maddox and Coop just melted my heart. Cage and Izzy (I have to say) left me reeling a few times. I just couldn't understand how they couldn't see that their best friend was falling apart but a complete stranger (Beck) could. It was like they were so consumed by their own lives they couldn't see what was happening under their own noses. Even Maddox and Coop noticed. Grrrr!!!

"Beck" will definitely put you through the emotional wringer.Much of the book I have to say, I read with a heavy heart and with the twists that were thrown in, it didn't help matters. However, there were also so many uplifting moments where I felt a weight had been lifted and I could actually feel the tension leave my brow!!! This was a brilliant addition to the "Corps Security Series" and I would definitely recommend you read it. I rated "Beck" 4 .5 Hearts.

"Thank you for being there, for always being there, and not letting me fall."

"I love you John Beckett. I love you with all my scarred heart."

About The Author:

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her ereader attached. As an ex-reviewer and blogger, Harper's passion for reading runs deep. It wasn't until 'Axel' decided to take up residence that she realized her true calling.

She started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
