Synopsis:

In the past, I've always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.

Not until him.

Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path.
I lost myself in more ways than I can count.

The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me.

And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

Review: Kirsty Lander:

I liked this book.. but I certainly didn't love it.

Catch Me gives you a great insight in to the music world. Not the side we are used to, the behind the scenes stuff. Brooklyn is the daughter of the owner of Harmon Records. Having lived her whole life in a privileged world she has never wanted for anything. Except for love. Her parents have never shown her love, but that's the only thing she's ever wanted.

"Depression is a cruel bitch. She starts by planting little seeds all over your mind,
knowing that life’s troubles will water it daily until it grows into a massive bonsai tree that crowds your thoughts and feelings, not leaving any room for leaves of hope to spur from it."

I loved the way Claire Contreras made me feel for Brooklyn. Reading about her past (and let me tell you.. it was heartbreaking) had me feeling so sad. No child should have to grow up in a family where they are so unloved and act out in various ways for attention. We aren't told straight away what exactly Claire did in her 'acting out', but I don't know about others, I worked it out pretty early on so I never had that shock factor when it was finally revealed. Either way though, it's so damn sad and I felt for Brooklyn.

Along the way, whilst Brooklyn is still struggling to overcome her past mistakes, she meets Nick. I didn't really care for Nick straight away.. I didn't really think of him as anything special, but I did love the instant connection between him and Brooklyn. You could just tell there was something there. The sexual tension was so apparent between them, and although I was glad there was no 'insta-love', I would have preferred them to speed up.. a little bit. I found myself getting a little bored waiting for it to happen.. waiting for them to finally recognise their feelings for each other.

"I’ve been kissed a million times, yet none at all. That’s how this kiss makes me feel.
Like I’m free falling, like I’m dying, like I’m breathing for the first time.
Like I’m high on ecstasy and a million expert hands are massaging me. This kiss is my life."

I think that the book was a little too long for me. There were parts that I felt dragged too much, parts that were unnecessary (I didn't need to constantly know whether Brooklyn was wearing flats or heels.. it was a little odd), but at the same time, I felt like other parts needing way more. Particularly the ending I was a little disappointed in. One minute I am happily reading, at 96% thinking there is still time for a lovely epilogue and such.. nope, it just finishes. For me the ending was rushed and I needed more.

I'm not sure if Claire Contreras plans on writing anymore for these characters, or the secondary characters, but I would die for a story all about Shea. Shea was Brooklyn's best friend.. they share a complicated, deep and emotional past, and I for one loved his character. He was just as broken as Claire and his story broke my heart a little. I think there is so much potential for a story there and I know I'd read it as soon as it released.
I rated "Catch Me" 4 Hearts

Author Bio:

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.

She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.

Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones or ones that will scare the daylights out of her and have her looking over her shoulder at every turn. Like I said, she's very random.
