Tour Organiser: Tasty Book Tours

Synopsis:

Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Blog Tour Review: Kirsty Lander

GAH! I had such high hopes for this being my next 5 star read. It was soo close, but not quite. *4.5 Hearts*

Warning: This review may contain minor spoilers, I will warn beforehand though.

Before I go off on a rant, I want to start off talking about all the things I loved. I loved Lexie's character, her humour and her incredible passion for art, and eventually for teaching children. I loved Trent, the step-brother, in the beginning, I should have been grossed out, disgusted maybe. Trent and Lexie had lived as brother and sister for A LOT of years, but I wasn't any of those things. I just enjoyed their relationship and that first sex scene with them, it was hot. I also loved that the story took place in Rome. There's just something so special about a book that is set in a place we aren't really used to. I really felt like I was there, walking those cobbled streets right along with Lexie. And lastly? I absolutely adored Alessandro.

"Passion can sometimes bring out qualities in a person that they never knew they possessed."

So more on the guys.. IMO there isn't much to say about Trent. He is Lexie's step-brother, there is supposedly a load of sexual tension there (I didn't totally buy that at the start) and eventually they act upon it.. And regret it. Instantly. He's your typical hot, nice guy. I wouldn't say there was anything extraordinary about him but at the same time, he wasn't a big bore either. Idk.. I just wasn't feeling him.

"All of a sudden, he isn't my stepbrother. He's everything I've ever needed."

And on to Alessandro.. sigh. I instantly fell for him. As the blurb says, he is 8 months away from becoming a priest. And I'm gonna be honest, before I started I thought there is no way I'm going to be able to fall and root for this guy. I was so wrong. He was one of the most interesting heroes I've ever read about in a book. He had a story to tell, that much was obvious from the beginning, and I couldn't wait to find out what the story entailed. He helped Lexie in so many ways from the moment she moved to Rome and never did he do it in a patronising way. He always had her best interest at heart.

"Lexie, you are one of God's truly spectacular creations."

I am generally not the biggest fan of love triangles, but this one was pretty tame in comparison to some. It's really hard to talk about my dislike of the book without giving anything away, so if you don't want a spoiler of any description, then it's probably best to stop reading now.

* SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT *

OK.. So.. IMO, if the author was dead set on having Lexie end up with the one guy in particular that she did, then I needed more from that relationship. I felt like we meet him, hear nothing from him in months, only snippets here and there, and then suddenly we get to 85%, after Lexie has spent a beautiful year (nearly) in Rome, and she is falling for the guy we don't know. He just wasn't around enough for me to believe it and that is why I can't go for 5 stars.

* SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT * SPOILER ALERT *

Overall I did really enjoy this read and it was a pleasant surprise because I really didn't know how I would feel about it. And I'm really looking forward to the next books in the series.
I rated "A Little Too Far" 4.5 Hearts

Author Bio:

Lisa Desrochers lives in northern California with her husband, two very busy daughters, and Shini the tarantula. If you'd told her five years ago she'd write a book, she'd have laughed in your face. As it turns out, she'd owe you an apology. Writing has become an addiction for Lisa and A Little Too Far, courtesy of HarperCollins, is her first novel for adults. She is also the author of the young adult Personal Demons trilogy from Macmillan. When she's not writing, she's reading, and she adores stories that take her to new places, and then take her by surprise.
