All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing threatens anyone Greg loves again.
Review: Surj Harvey
When I first met Greg Cage in "Axel," I fell head over heals in love with him and I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book. He was kind, caring, completely over protective of those he loved and he was most definitely 100% alpha. All the characteristics that make him the ideal book boyfriend don't you think? Those characteristics most definitely transferred into "Cage" but I also got to see another side to his character (which I will talk about further on in my review.)
Greg's story hadn't been a easy one. The death of his twin sister had hit him hard because he felt he had failed her. He was unable to protect her from an abusive relationship and that guilt would continue to eat away at him. He vowed that he would never let another woman he loved be hurt:
He wanted to explore what they had but Meli was cautious. I could completely understand her rationale for this because every man that had entered the Larson household had bought nothing but pain, heart ache and tragedy. This girl was not about to make the same mistakes as her mother and sister. Meli was fiercely independent, the sole bread winner supporting both her mother and her adorable nephew Cohen. Her goal? To make sure her family stayed just that... a family. And if that meant making sacrifices, then so be it. One thing Meli didn't want in her life was turmoil so when Greg delivered just that to her doorstep, she was quite happy to close the door in his face:
This girl was bad ass and feisty and I loved that she didn't fall into Greg's arms straight away (although I can't imagine that was easy feat).
Greg's character had me completely torn in this book and I really feel I lost some of my connection with him in the transition from "Axel" to "Cage." There was a side to him that I was introduced to very early on in this book and I just didn't like it. He was cold and cruel and some of his words so completely unnecessary:
If this was a one off, I would try and ignore it but on a number of occasions, his words and reactions really surprised me. They were completely out of character for the man that had stolen my heart and I really struggled to overlook them. And before you say it, yes I know who was on the receiving end of them and I know that what she did at the end of the book was completely unforgivable, but it made me see his character in a whole new light... and not a good one. He did manage to redeem himself somewhat in his relationship with Meli and her family but those words remained ingrained in my mind.
There were a couple of twists that were thrown into this book, one of which came up very early on in Greg and Meli's relationship. Initially it seemed that these two were connected through mutual friends (Axel, Izzy, Dee etc) but no... because that would just be easy. Nope, their connection ran far deeper and this when it was revealed quite early on, I knew exactly what the fall out would be and I was so right. It wasn't pretty.
The second twist came at 80%, and that's when my bad ass biker boy Braxxon Breaker walked back into my life. I loved this guy from Crystal Spears "Breakneck" series and was over the moon when
Greg called "Break Neck." OK so maybe over the moon is an exaggeration considering the situation but I knew that with these two on the case, everything would work out just fine:
I was really hoping for amazing things with "Cage" but I have to say, I found the story line a little predictable, Cage's character really disappointed me and by the time I got to 50%, I was still waiting to feel something. I wanted my heart to feel like it had run the gauntlet and for my emotions to feel like they had been put through the ringer but nothing... zilch... nada. It was like I was waiting for the story to kick start but honestly, it didn't happen until the very end. I loved reading more about Axel and Izzy and the other guys from Corps security and Meli's nephew Cohen... he was just so hilarious. Dee and Beck's story is next and I will most definitely read this one. These two characters have me intrigued and I like the fact I know very little about them.
I rated "Cage" 3 Hearts.

And never a truer word be said because from the minute he laid eyes on Melissa, he was gone. I could see that she was under his skin and in his head and come hell or high water, he just couldn't shake the feeling that it was more than a physical attraction:
Having her in my arms feels like coming home. I am not one to believe in all that love at first
sight bullshit, but even as cynical as I am, I can recognise something bigger that lust at work.
I might have let you jumble m head once, shame on me... but it won't happen again big boy.
You have some issues with your little bitch, and those issues I want nothing to do with.
