Synopsis:

Renner Caldwell has her life perfectly mapped out. She has the ideal relationship, the perfect job and all is right in her world. When a shameful turn of events happens, she boards the first plane bound for Ireland to lick her wounds and get her head back on straight.

Cillian O’Braidagh is the sexy, front man to the Irish rock band, Over The Edge. His rising fame and sultry voice make him every woman’s fantasy come true. Not to mention his single-minded determination. To put it simply: what Cillian wants, Cillian always gets. And he wants Renner, because there’s just something about the flame-haired beauty he has to possess.

If their relationship was just about sex and rock n’ roll, it would be easy for them to get lost in their desires. Only their relationship is anything but a hook-up. Will lies, deceit and hidden tragedy get in the way, making the path to true love uncertain? Or will the girl whose been knocked Off Course, find her footing with the man who is teaching her it’s okay to lose control?

Review: Surj Harvey

When the opportunity came up to take part in the blog tour for Sawyer Bennett's latest book "Off Course (# 4 Off Series), I jumped at the chance. I'd heard so many positive things about this series and the synopsis for this latest book had me intrigued. Well actually that's a lie. It had me salivating because Cillian O'Braidagh sounded like one very hot bad boy rock star and I just had to get to know him a little better so that's exactly what I did.

On a trip to Dublin at the age of Seventeen, Renner Caldwell crossed paths with Cillian O'Braidagh. Their encounter was only brief but this man had left his mark and over the years, Renner had thought of him often. Fast forward five years and Renner was back on the Emerald Isle. Unfortunately, this time she was hiding. Whatever had happened with her job with Delta Airways had made her flee and seek refuge at her aunt and uncles place. The last person she'd expected to run into was the hot rock star who'd made her go weak at the knees all those years ago. She recognised him immediately:

Let's face it.... I was a blip on the radar for him, a young girl, not yet eighteen, who he'd
spent a few hours with on a night five years ago. There's no reason I would have stood out

How wrong could she be because this man did not forget her. In fact she'd also left a lasting impression on him and he wanted more of what he'd gotten back then.... a lot more.

I loved how their relationship progressed from being a game of wanting what you can't have, to very hot sex (and I mean very hot sex... fans self) to both characters being emotionally invested in a future together:

The depths of my feelings for her scares me a bit, but it also fills me with an excitement
that maybe I can have a real relationship with a woman. It is something
I had written off but maybe... just maybe..

It definitely wasn't an easy journey though with so many obstacles thrown at them (especially crazy, nut job ex's causing unnecessarily drama!!!!) but they were finally giving in to their feelings and my heart was doing a happy dance. Each of them was stepping out of their comfort zone to pursue this relationship and I had this nervous energy willing for it to work but knowing it wouldn't be straight forward.

Renner Caldwell had always been sensible. She wasn't spontaneous, didn't do surprises and she had her future all mapped out. Don't get me wrong though, I didn't find her character boring and she definitely wasn't a push over. Yes people in her past had taken advantage of her but that would not be happening again. There were times where I saw an insecure side to her but I also saw a strong, self assured woman and I loved that if there was something she truly didn't want to do, then she wouldn't be sucked into doing it. This included letting Cillian control her:

His revelations have led me to a deeper understanding of what drives him.
I understand his need for control but I will not always bow to it.

Ah yes, Cillian and his alpha ways:

I don't take orders, because I need control. It is imperative that I be in control,
because I spent so much of my life spinning out of it. I can't give it up for anyone..

Initially, I wasn't sure whether I'd like his character. He'd come across as cocky and very arrogant at the start of the book but he was a grower and the more I read, the more I fell in love with him. With chapters told from his POV, I could really understand the reasons for his actions and behaviour. Don't get me wrong, some of the things he did still frustrated the hell out of me but these chapters really helped to soften the blow.

The secondary characters in the book elicited mixed emotions from me. Maeve was just a complete and utter bitch and Daniel... well I wanted to scream at him to wake the fuck up and smell the coffee!!!! Truly a man walking around with his eyes closed!!!! Teagan and Cady bought the humour and uncle Keefe was the man behind the wisdom.

My first experience of a Sawyer Bennett novel was most definitely an positive one. This book gave me a tattoo'd, pierced, alpha male rock star, it gave me drama that drove me bonkers and it gave me romance (the sizzling hot sort... just how I like it!!!). I connected with the characters well and the story had me wanting to read until the very last page. The book was well written although there were a couple of moments where I did wonder about the words and phraseology used by Cillian (I'm from the UK and my best buddy is Irish) but those were really the only glitches.

I rated this book 4 Hearts

I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series. The last book in the series (#5 in the Off Series) will be Flynn's story.
